It would be really awesome if this was added! You could play songs from Soundcloud, Youtube, etc.

Once again, legal issues here which is why its not being done. Another issue is that it would require a seperate server to handle pulling the mp3's which is why direct integration exist, so you use their servers not your own.

Since Audiosurf can't play music from streaming sources (it has to process the whole audio track before playback starts) it would have to download the whole video. I had a look at the Youtube APIs and it doesn't look like they support playing videos outside of webpages at all. Youtube also definitely doesn't allow playing back just the audio track, so AS2 would need to play the video and advertisements in the background or something.

On the other hand, if AS2 allowed users to create addons for playing back more types of music, someone in the community could just make an illegal youtube ripper addon and Dylan wouldn't take any of the blame.

Its built in unity, its already moddable by someone who can code :spazwinky:

???
Unity games can't be turned back into Unity projects.

I'm not sure what you mean by that DBN, my point was that an addon can be made using the source code of the game. Which being focused around Unity means its already a well known language.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Unity isn't a language and the game's source code is not included. Reverse engineering the game so you can hack in improvements is a far cry from official addon support.

Unity is largely open and all works around the same code, we have access to just about every asset in audiosurf 2 which means if someone was willing to put in the time they could do it themselves. My point is that its just as likely that someone do that then there is that mod capability will be made for us to do it in an easier way, when either way we'd have to code it and integrate it ourselves in the end.

Your statements about Unity still don't make sense. Do you even code? Its use of Unity doesn't have anything to do with the discussion, really; the Unity API isn't what AS2 uses to read audio files. It would be much, much easier for official plugin support to be added than it would be for a 3rd party to develop and maintain a hack.

Unity is a versitile platform and leaves itself open for change and addition later, whether by the origional authers or a 3rd party. This essentially means that it'd be easier for us to develop a mod without direct integration compared to other platforms, which is why it has everything to do with this discussion. As for what Audiosurf uses to read audio files, that has nothing to do with out discussion here as it reads the files its given so its just a matter of getting it these files. Yes official plugin support would be nice, but its not like he can add something that easily allows us to acomplish this. Either way it'd take a modders hard work to acomplish.
