audiosurf 2 has better graphics along with workshop skins and gamemodes. I dont see why you would buy the first instead.

Well Audiosurf 1 is cheaper, so that's probably the main reason to buy the first rather than the sequel.
Otherwise, as scayman said, Audiosurf 2 has workshop support which allows you to use a large variety of skins and game modes (the original audiosurf only has 3 skins in comparison). There are some differences in gameplay between the two games but they still consist of the same general concept.
There's also a demo for Audiosurf 2 that you can try out if you haven't already.

Edit: It seems that there's also a demo for Audiosurf 1 as well, although I haven't personally played that demo.

Audiosurf 2. It supports user-made skins and game modes, and has a much more interesting track generation algorithm which makes for cooler-looking track shapes. I also think the re-worked official game modes are mechanically superior overall (I won't go into details since it doesn't matter to you, having not played the first game). The people who say AS1 is better seem to dislike change in general, whether it's good or bad. They seem unable to explain why they think the changes are bad to any satisfying degree.

AS2 does have its problems though. I think the worst of these at the moment is the fact that keyboard/gamepad players are at a serious disadvantage because of various bugs (you can read about it in my Bug/Suggestion thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/235800/discussions/0/496881136907697734/ ). And a lot of Linux users seem to be having issues running the game since the last update four or five months ago.

AS2 is better for more casual play, and has far better graphics, along with workshop support. From what I've seen AS1 has a higher difficulty cap. I prefer 2, but there are plenty of people that enjoy 1. Also, is you have a worse computer, 1 is probably a better bet. For instance, i have and Intel HD 2500 (don't worry, I'm building a computer.) I can run AS1 at high settings with 80+ FPS. I can run most AS2 skins (with some exceptions) at medium with around 40-50 FPS.

Thanks for answering everyone! :3
I will probably buy AS2.
Thanks everyone!

Why buy when you can download it for free?

I've tried both demos and ended up with the AS2. I understand that some oldschool-hardcore players prefer AS1, but I think that it's more the matter of habbit than anything else. Love the game so far. Eventually I'll get bored, sure, but I find it really-reall enjoyable.
Skins are cool - plenty to choose from, the gameplay is as casual or as hard as you want it to be, depending on the mode and\or music style.

AS1 has the ORIGINAL Ninja mono, which is very different from the current. one. In that, grey blocks would stack in your grid, but not go away for a while. If you combined this with the Ironmode option, it became incredibly hard to get through a song, without hours upon hours of practice.

Ugh. Equating the entirety of Audiosurf with Mono, huh? That's all too typical, unfortunately. Well, there goes my good mood.

No, Ninja Mono Ironmode wasn't anywhere near "incredibly hard" most of the time. It certainly wasn't for me anyway, even when I first started out. Especially if you're talking about simply avoiding an overfill loss (I don't understand how anyone could manage to actually overfill in that mode). Ninja Mono Ironmode wasn't challenging at all in and of itself, unless maybe you were going for Stealth and 100% block collection on a fast song with like 400+ traffic congestion (very few songs would meet those requirements). (By the way, going for 100% color blocks usually isn't a good idea when score is concerned, because of it causing force-clears on matches that are still too small to be worth it.)

Not to mention the mono mode mechanics in AS1 were a nonsensical contradictory mess of bad game design. I would spell it out for you more clearly, but I already made a couple huge posts explaining why I thought so in that awful "mono: hit the grey!" thread. Dylan took the contradictory BS that was Ninja Mono in AS1 and separated it out into our current Mono and Ninja modes in AS2. These modes are much more sensibly designed, are way more fun, and take more thought and skill than any AS1 mono mode. AS2's Ninja mode essentially IS Ninja Mono Ironmode, minus some pointless mechanics like sticky grays and the consecutive hit bonus.

For those who don't like the addition of block placement RNG and power blocks, AS2 has the Mono Turbo, Mino Nitro, and Mono Classic mods (among others). These are fundamentally like the old AS1 mono modes, with the main difference being that grays don't disappear after a set time, but stick on the grid until they hit the bottom. Not a terribly huge difference, especially since you're probably just going to restart the song anyway the instant you hit a gray because of losing your Stealth bonus.(That's not necessarily the case though, at least not for non-ironmode Ninja Mono in AS1. For some songs it was better to sacrifice your Stealth bonus and use grays + the shuriken ability to strategically reset the match timer so you could make larger matches. Now we have a better, streamlined version of this concept in AS2's current Mono mode.)

If AS1 has "a higher difficulty cap" (it doesn't, imo), it's definetly not because of dumb ol' Ninja Mono.

I was going to go on for a few more paragraphs about why I think the puzzle modes in AS2 take as much skill (if not more) than the ones in AS1, but none of you care about that. *sigh*

that makes me sad, i mean i get it, not everyone can afford to buy a game that they really want, ive done that with the first nekopara and also the patch for nekopara vol. 2.
if you have the money though, id buy, you get access to the beta versions, achievements, etc. and its well worth the money.

Listen up. The Main reason you buy a game is Getting in touch with the community, right?

Audiosurfs community is worse than how hitlers relationship was to the jews. The community is also dead. So there is like no Big difference at all between purchased and downloaded client.

I also wanted to add that if you buy the game, you can not express yourself about how you feel about the game. If you do so, you'll be hated by everyone

Go Pirate

I wasn't basing the entirety of the game with mono. That's all that I really played in the previous game, so that's what I know. It's also been ages since I played the original, so this is based on past memories. I'm not trying to judge the game or anything, jeesh.

you just will not have the workshop.

I'd say go for AS1 if you're strictly after the best feel and can live with only using local songs.

AS2 doesnt feel the same as AS1 (its still not bad imo), but it has a lot more features, mainly workshops modes and skins, but also Youtube playback (via the community patch from audiosurf2.info)
There are still people that play both game, right at this moment an AS2 tournament is happening, its not dead, just small.
I like AS2 more cause it has faster/harder modes, but once in a while AS1 is also nice

(also the community patch is still being worked at with new features and fixes)
