Now something like 'Riffracer' - it's basically a racer with the custom music, I could not play it because of how 'detached' from the rthym itself their tracks were.
If you need more classic 'rhythm' gameplay - there are some DDR modes in the workshop, and they can be played with the dance-pad.
Track patterns are not always that well, Audiosurf 1 handled that way better
but playing with the DDR modes is honestly horrible, they play like Osu! autoconverts.
Audiosurf 1 still feels much better than 2.
Well, that's the first time I've seen anyone utter such a thing about AS1 vs AS2 track generation. It seems the vast majority disagree.
It also really depends on the mode (Casual vs Ninja Turbo will be very different, etc.), and certain modes may go better with certain songs.
The first game is still far superior to this sequel and most AS veterans think alike; so i dunno where you've got that from.
For mono gameplay:
Block patterns in this game feel very weird and random, almost as if it's the caterpillar-tag from the first one. It's a completely different algorhythm which generates the blocks and i just don't like it - it doesn't represent the rhythm / the song as well, it's too much.
Overall, if you loved the original game, AS 2 will feel pretty bad.
The stats shown before you play a song are interesting, and it's nice that it has a little tutorial. I wish Dylan would have recreated this stuff for AS2.
Gameplay-wise, meh. It certainly did not feel superior in any way. And it sucks for keyboard players like me that there's no auto-center. I had to switch to mouse, which is lame because I feel no rhythm and connection to the music when playing with mouse.
What I'd like to know though, does someone know the position of the camera for this? Seems like it'd be the perfect camera angle for AS2 turbo modes.

Well, opinions may differ but the majority of old regulars still sticks to the prequel - not a coincidence.
As a standalone, AS 2 is a great game, but not as an upgrade to AS 1, not even close. And i guess even Dylan himself is aware of that.
You can still use the number keys and jump straight to the center with the "2"-key if i'm not mistaken.
My problem was that when the ship is in one of the side lanes, and there's a block I want in the other side lane, I have to press the arrow key twice to get there. It's just not fluid/fast enough for mid-tempo on up. So it is 1 - left lane, 2 - center, 3 - right lane? That I could cope with, probably.
