- Enable VSync in the options menu.
- Verify the integrity of the game cache: Right click Audiosurf 2 in Steam Library > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity.
- Turn off "Auto Find Music" in the options menu and delete the "AudiosurfMusicLibrary.aml" file in your "Steam\steamapps\common\Audiosurf 2\Audiosurf2_Data\cache\db" directory. Sometimes the "AudiosurfMusicLibrary.aml" file may become corrupt and will need to be deleted again.
- Opt into the "bleedingedge" beta: Right click Audiosurf 2 in Steam Library > Properties > Betas > drop-down list > bleedingedge. You can also try the "before_videosurf" build if you are having trouble with the other versions and don't plan on using YouTube.
- For Linux distros, install "Pulseaudio" and the "pulseaudio-alsa" package to fix certain crashes and other issues. Apparently the game engine tries to use the Steam-supplied Pulseaudio drivers, but if you don't have Pulseaudio on your system then it messes things up. Alternatively, if you don't want to use Pulseaudio, remove or rename the libpulse-simple files located in "~/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/" and "~/.steam/steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/".
- Perform a clean reinstall: Right click Audiosurf 2 in Steam Library > Delete Local Content > Delete the left over Audiosurf 2 folder in the "Steam\steamapps\common" directory > Reinstall. If you want to be thorough then you should also delete anything related to AS2 in your ""C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData" hidden folder (in Local, LocalLow, and Roaming) before reinstalling. To see the AppData folder, you'll have to enable hidden folders and files in Windows; google it if you don't know how.
- Force the game to use DirectX 9: Right click Audiosurf 2 in Steam Library > Properties > Set Launch Options > Enter "-force-d3d9".
- Take a look at the "output_log.txt" file in the "Steam\steamapps\common\Audiosurf 2\Audiosurf2_Data" directory. It could give some clues about the nature of your problem.
- If you tried everything you could think of and searched through the forums to no avail, then the last option is to email Dylan. Describe your problem as best you can and attach your "output_log.txt" file to the email (see above for the output_log location): dylan@audio-surf.com
It just happened again and I found this in the output_log.txt file :
