Zero balance, useless auto combat, stupid grind.

Very monotonous.

This is probably a nice game for a lot of people who are very into strategy games but i found it very unintuitive, slow and frustrating.

It took me a while to figure out the basics and actually do anything but you are quickly stopped by the game. You can only build one building and you are missing basically everything (nothing to train heroes or hire mercenaries, etc) so actually getting to a point where you can do stuff every round and not just skip after one action or two takes a while.
The game also lacks information imo, especially in combat. You can not see how much health your units or the enemy units have, which enemies you are up against, etc.
After one fight, which killed the majority of my people i just didn't want to continue anymore.

I'm not good at this game at all. Campaign, single player, doesn't matter. Beginner level opponents wipe me out. Hundred plus turns to get a few hexes past the starting town. Get to rank 2 units and can devastate basic units of opponents, brigands, etc. Try to go toe to toe with enemy rank 2 and get obliterated. Now the units cost more to recover. On campaign, the opposing lord is in my face before I can even get a couple rings out. I try to take a town after they move just to find 9+ guards. I can barely afford peanuts at that point.

So, I am awful at this game. And I'm tired of trying. I'm tired of having to click every silly dialog that comes up with choices like 'I'll get him' vs 'that's too bad.' I have to click this? Why? I can't find a hotkey to just hit enter and move past that dialog box.

Starting campaign over involves a lot of dialog boxes.

No good at this game. When opponent shows up, just walks right through me. Can barely get out of starting area. Tired of running out of funds. Yeah, tired.

I must be missing something, because I dont get the positive reviews on this.
In the few hours I played, I got to a point where I couldnt build anything else, and captured every piece of land except for the main bad guys home base, because his troops were far tougher than mine.
So I grind, and grind in "search," mode to attempt to get stronger, but there are only a few enemies I can actually kill, and any of my men that start to level up -- get immediately killed after a couple battles because of being shot at repeatedly.
This can't be the game loop, can it? There has to be more to this, but hell if I know what it is. The only "quests," I received were to bring some scrolls to some wizards, but since the items you find are based on random chance, those scrolls never popped up in the time I played. So it was just "search area, fight low level guys, retreat from 90% of everyone else, rinse repeat for hours." Beats me why this is fun. I'll stick with Battle Brothers.

If it's super cheap and you like HOMM style games it's not a bad investment. However the biggest drawback is grinding for 5 hours before you even start to play the game. It's very slow to get to what's good about it and I'm not sure it's worth it when there are so many other games that deliver what this does in far less time invested.

In short this is 'not recommended' simply because I wouldn't recommend it over the competition. Not because it's egregiously bad.

A HoMM clone, but kinda boring.
You have to sit in your starting province and grind until you can challenge the mobs available in every province.
The problem is those mobs are one of two kinds, either too easy or too hard, no in-between. The hard ones will give you problem even when you're very high level.
You can levelup your hero and he'll be your main weapon because the levelups on your soldiers are insignificant and they die like flies. So you have to constantly hire new troops that start at level zero again.
The best strategy is to keep grinding in every province until your hero is like a super saiyan and can take down all the enemies by himself pretty much, we're talking dozens of hours killing small fry for XP.
Other than that you can challenge the enemy overlord and steal his provinces in a boring back and forth attrition war.

General Thoughts/Overview:
Eador isn’t for everyone… actually I’d go so far as to say it isn’t really for very many people at all. Luckily for me, I’m one of the people it’s aimed at and I really enjoy it. You might too…
So, Eador is a Heroes of might and magic after its a few beers deep and decided to hurt you. A turn based strategy where you control a city/kingdom, building buildings and hiring heroes to lead your armies on an ever expanding conquest of the game map. The main difference between other HoMM style games and Eador is the ‘overworld’ map. It’s a strategic decision of its own where you choose the next map (which decides the benefits you’re playing for) and contains the story and lore.

Pros:

• Fantastic score which fits the theme and provides a pleasant atmosphere.
  
• The perk choice system and over map give a degree of tactical choice, and there are many different strategies and play styles that’d fill many players First Order Optimal Strategy niches.
  
• The game has a real ‘just one more turn’ feel to it when you’re in your swing, which is always a really, really good sign.
  
• The game is super challenging, and if you like hard mode, you’ll like this. Everything will kill you at the start, and your units are super squishy. Combine this with the entire game being ironman mode, and it can make for a tense play through.

So yeah, the games right for a TBS lover, esp one looking for a fight.
Cons:

• The pacing is extremely janky. There are points where it’s sooo dull. The game is extremely repetitive, and can be extremely slow. It either moves so fast you’re fighting a losing battle to overcome insurmountable odds, or you’re sat waiting 100 turns just grinding.
  
• The AI isn’t good, and it relies on very obvious cheating to get by. This one rule for one and different for another is extremely annoying. The AI doesn’t follow the same rules as you do, and it’s frustrating at best.
  
• The maps take so long that the campaign is probably going to be hundreds of hours long. If they were a little better paced this would be a massive pro.
  
• The game is so RNG based its just unreal. Good events, kind spawns, decent surrounding provinces, they make the world of difference… and that robbery of tactical play in a strategy game can be so frustrating.
  
• The game tells you literally nothing about how to play it, there is a short tutorial that provides some of the basics, but beyond basic navigation there is nothing.

Suggested improvements:

• Voice acting could add something to the game. If done well, at any rate.
  
• More and better control of pacing – it takes so long to build up to even the second tier of units.
  
• Better province control. I liked being able to build things there, I’d like to see more improvement options etc.

Overall Recommendation:
So I would recommend this game for TBS enthusiasts. I wouldn’t to anyone else. It’s a well put together take on the genre, and for people who love it, this will add so much. For the majority, it’ll be a frustrating, unfair, and joyless grind.
