Enemy attack patterns?
So, the game starts off easy enough where every Velocidrome uses speed, every Aptonoth uses Power, and every Yellow Konchu uses Tech. Then very quickly it gets weird and you have a Bulldrome doing Technical attacks.
Is this a pure RPS or is there a mechanic I'm missing?

Far as I can tell it is complete random chaos as you get up there in hours played. I've seen some monsters use the same attacks back to back, some use just random combos. There is no pattern to some of them. It isn't like MHS2 at all. Gets frustrating, when you think you worked out what attack they SHOULD use next, and they use something else lol

You learn patterns as you go, the first time you battle them is trial and error and with time you get it.

Even more irritating when Navirou is screaming at you to "learn their attack patterns!" lol. Think you know a monster and suddenly it pulls a completely different move so that there is no real pattern.

This, thought I was going insane but no, they might go tech tech power but no they then suddenly do tech power tech, screw you I guess. I swear MH2 was better with this

For the most part, there is a static set of patterns. Each monster usually has two or three. The rotation the of the patterns is random, though. Also, most species, will share the same attack types as their sub species. Hermatuars, and garugas being a good example. I think Fatalis is the only true random one,

Short story long, the move sets are a little more complicated than mh2, but with some game time, it won’t be hard to memorize each attack pattern. Happy hunting:mhwhappy:

Glad I decided to play this one first then. The sequel sounds more strategic. I'll just power through this one for now, lol. Thanks!

Is there a table I can refer to though? Everything I've read up on so far are for the sequel. I don't like putting that much time into games to figure these on my own anymore. These days are long gone for me, lol.

2 is definitely better about it. You can anticipate attack patterns pretty much perfectly. They don't throw a random attack in out of nowhere, just gotta learn the move set. Not so with this game.

Not that I’m aware of, but you can always use binoculars to see their preferred attack style. The beginning monsters will usually stick to one type (speed, tech, power). Velocidromes for example will usually do two speed attacks followed up by one power attack. So if you just blindly spam tech to counter the speed moves, you’ll get caught off guard.

yeah this is the thing stories 2 said it would and did fix...this one they have a "preferred" attack type but have no set rhythm to it...the prefer power attacks but also do tech attacks and will randomly do a speed skill attack...and theres no order to it...the more basic the monster the more basic it is though...with a more set routine to them...the harder the monster the less routine...i remember playing this on mobile ages back and wanted to see whats different...

so far theres less monsters to find in each area...i remember getting a devil jho in the snow fields...sure i couldnt use it but i got it nonetheless...and the biggest difference is the egg patterns....god thats the worst part...now i dont know if ive got an arzuros or lagombi or velocidrome or EITHER kut ku...every monstie has an egg with 4 colour variations which...is just insane...

but the attack rotation is maddening...which is why i was so happy with stories 2...hopefully stories 3 will be almost the cross between main line monster hunter and stories...give me more free will but also give me my bagel bomber

This should help with the eggs. Also don’t forget, the variants with good genes are mostly found in gold dens.

Speaking for myself, I actually prefer the way monsters are programmed in mhst. I found number two to be lack luster, the monsters never change their strategy, this game always kept me on my toes. Once it goes on sale, I’ll buy this version to try it out. I have the 3ds as well as the iOS versions already. Anyway, hope the egg guide helps. :mhwhappy:

i never understood why he be yapping about attack patterns, i have yet to discover any patterns lol

Each monster kinda has its own base pattern (literally the only way I know this and some of the monsters is bc of Stories 2), but 1 kinda throws it out the window where they can use any attack, even on first turn.

Its Pure RNG what happens and it gets weird to a point where you stop playing the game.
I Stoped Play this game for the reason its pure RNG what happens.
I beat the game and tested a bit the "Postgame" stuff.

Fight monsters that are Power Monsters but use only 1-2 times in a long fight a power attack and mix tactic and speed rng in a battle let you feel like you can choose whatever you wish.

A Example i fight diablos as far as i remember or was it Monobolus? A whyle he changes his attack to tactic allways when he uses his focus skill (forgot the exact name) so i thought finaly i found a pattern in this RNG crap. But no after a couple attacks he uses Speed attack after focus.

Thats only one example the hole game is a rng mess.

LOL i mean even call my Power monsters means nothing, it starts with a speed attack even it have zero speed skills. I love the Monster Hunter Genre and i never uninstalled any MH Game loooong after the Post game. Thats the first one.

I was never in the Tower of Illusions or in this Maze and i only scratched the surface of the offline (Special) Tournaments.

MHS 2 was not very good too (the combat) but i enjoyed the hole game: Its story, the post game content, collecting and build up my monstis. I even Grind my Characters levels and Monstis levels.

MHS 1 could be so good without this RNG Crap. I will never buy any MHS game again if i cant sure that the combat is by far better then in MHS 1+2.

You can predict the type of attack based on the small movements the monster does while idle. Some will just swing their head to one side at one point of the animation, some others will just do one extra "mouth opening" animation, etc.

Seems to work most of the time for me :) not easy tho.
