Found possible crash fix
My son and I both have Alienware laptops. His has AMD, mine has NVIDIA. His game was crashing constantly every 15-30 minutes, mine went straight to the thanks for playing screen initially.

At first I tried the change originally recommended in videoSettings.ini and it fixed my problem, but my son's game kept crashing. However, while I was able to play I did crash as well, but not as often. Yesterday I decided to try other changes and after the following change we were able to play without crashing for 3 hours.

In videoSettings.ini
Change: EyefinityMode=2
To: EyefinityMode=0

This is obviously not the standard on/off configuration. My guess is it indicates the number of monitors. I'm betting 0 in essense turns it off.

Of course it could be a coincidence, and can't be 100% certain until we play more and other people try this, but it makes sense that this could be the culprit since nvidia does not use this and AMD cards also have a problem, if not actually taking advantage of this. If this is causing issues, that would mean someone needs to build in some code that ignores this if the system is not using it.

One other thing to note, I have 32gb of RAM and I noticed the game will sometimes go to "not responding" while using a 3rd party voice chat. Which is just ridiculous! What the heck is the game doing that hitting the push to talk key, does this. While playing windowed, the game recovers, but in full screen this could be another item causing crashes. We have not tried the game voice chat, so don't know what effect that has.

I hope this helps more people.

[Update] 4 more hours played and still no crashing. This looks like it did the trick for me.

I confirmed for me that EyefinityMode to 0 solve the problem. I've been playing all day without a crash ! Thank you for this one

Thanks to your findings and the "WindowStyleFinal=2" fix, I can now play the game @60fps on DX11 Ultra. This should help those who are not running CFX and SLI to run somewhat better... at least until we see a proper fix from Ubisoft.

Note: I have the game through UPlay, but this fix was worth posting back to to say Thanks!!

what is the EyefinityMode?
BOG Aug 29, 2013 @ 8:50am
It applies to AMD cards and is what enables the multiple monitor support.

it seems to only affect computers with AMD cards (like mine and other people that ive heard having the same problem) so i had to switch the DirectX11 to DirectX9 to fix the problem untill (if they do) they come out with a patch/update

i7-2600 3.4GHz, 12GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series

i usually get an hour of play before it crashes, grab a couple beers, rinse, repeat. Hope this works.

@Lumicko
try it, if you havent already, with changing the setting in VideoSettings.ini: EyefinityMode=2
to EyefinityMode=0 and WindowStyleFinal=1 to WindowStyleFinal=2
