I'm guessing it has something to do with the video being of the Xbox version of the game, which doesn't have a mouse cursor. I haven't been able to complete these missions though, even though I'm 100% sure I'm in the right place.
This was in the description of another video: "IMPORTANT NOTE: You may not be able to complete a Gone Dark Intel Metagame challenge if you are not far enough into the single player campaign."
Why the hell are the missions on my bloody map if I can't complete them in the first place?!
I've completed 4 of these Dark Missions and never had to 'click' on a area. After I select the first Dark Mission I choose to search and then just move the cursor over an area and let it hover for a sec or two. In fact, you don't have to know where the next location is, just slowly scan the entire world.
