That Grim Mission
Edit/Update: I made this forum literally years and years ago, I don't care how good you are at Spliner Cell. Please stop telling me how good you are at Spliner Cell. OP does not care how good you are at Splinter Cell. OP's inbox is getting endless messages by people who are very good at Splinter Cell and want OP to know this but OP doesn't care. OP has not played Spliner Cell for Years. OP isn't impressed that you beat a mission on Splinter Cell. Nobody is impressed that you beat that mission on Splinter Cell.

Original Post/Rant
Whoever designed the Grim mission where you have to complete 3 objectives across a large map without being spotted by 10 guards including a sniper, lazer defenses cameras and optional collectible crap all of which must be completed with NO F**KING CHECKPOINTS for some reason and the bonus objective is dont even interrupt the guards, whoever designed that can go die. In fact it actually makes me sad that there is no way in which the level designer could die painfully enough for my satisfaction. That might sound a bit harsh until you play it.

Getting 3/4 through the mission and being halfway through the lazer grid when a prompt "disable lazers" appears on the hud so I foolishly assume the off switch is right next to me only to have Fisher mosey on into the nearest alarm is rage inducing,

So you save the fact that I collected the thing in the attic but you dont actually save that I got that far or got the laptop? WHY? You just proved to me that you can save things in your game why the f**k dont you just do that every time I complete an objective? Is this supposed to be intentionally annoying? It checkpoints all the ruddy time in Brigg's missions why the (ect ect)

Why does the noisemaker have all the potency of a kitten fart in a hurricane? Fourth Echalon cant affort a decent speaker is that it?

"can only be used in co-op" oh yeah thats great why dont I just bend over for you

I swear to god Fisher if you dont open that friggin window right now- ("apotted again") GHRAAA

Other than that its pretty great.

Actually, these Grim missions is my favourite part of the game (as SC veteran :D). It requires true stealth and good level analysis. No checkpoints only make it better. I can show you how to beat these levels without disturbing any enemies at all if you want :) But i'm pretty sure there is a lot of videos on Youtube already.

They didn't prove you anything. Their game can't save your state properly since Conviction, it has simplified checkpoints and relatively linear missions which don't allow to come back for the same reason.

That's why when they've made relatively open areas which you can visit twice before and after a checkpoint (like the first three areas of Private Estate mission), you could notice that the game doesn't have persistence. Already knocked out enemies are disappeared, broken light sources work again, etc...

One of the most obvious examples: in the last SP mission you could kill three snipers from the very beginning of the level using a sniper rifle. Then going through the first checkpoint and restarting it you will see that all snipers will be back. That's why Grim's missions don't have checkpoints at all.

Yeah, it made it so "good" that I uninstalled this crap and won't touch it again.

heh, doesn't sound like he's a true Splinter Cell. That's what the games are about, no offense.
LMAO I beat that mission on my 3rd try your no where near being Sam Fisher if you cant beat a simple mission with a few Lasers Cameras and A sniper this mission is a good example of what the original splinter cell missions were like I remember Splinter Cell Double Agent Having Lasers all over the map on one mission Hell even Pandora Tommarow Had Lasers and the Cameras go all the way back to splinter cell 1 back in 1997 the only thing thats new in this mission is the sniper because this is accually the first splinter cell in the series that have real Sniper Rifles.

And it's unbelieveable how easy it is to make the "mature" posters show their real age.

Calm down dear...

I'm guessing (since you didn't mention its name) you're referring to the Hackers' Den mission offered by Grim.

The side missions in Blacklist are designed to offer solo/co-op in the three gameplay styles;
  • Charlie = Assault
  • Korbin = Panther
  • Grim = Stealth
  • Briggs = Co-op only

When I played the Grim missions, the first thing I did was go for the Dead Drop, HVT, and Laptop. Once collected, I didn't have to bother with them again, and could focus on the objectives. The fact Grims' missions don't have checkpoints can be a little frustrating, but these are designed to be stealth missions. You take you time, learn the patrol routes of the guards, use gadgets for distractions, all the things that make Splinter Cell great. Once you have mastered these and managed to complete the mission, you then focus on the guards undisturbed bonus, and last thing you work on is your time.

Finally some tips for the Hacker's Den mission; Be patient and take you time, Lasers will have a fusebox nearby so look for it and shoot it, you don't have to complete the objectives in order.

It wasn't the hackers den mission, that one was comparatively easy. It was the one with the bomb site where the truck is in the open with a sniper looking at it and 3 guards patrolling around it. Its probably worth mentioning I was avoiding knockouts altogether because knocking everybody out feels very cheap. All these people saying you did it in 3 tries? Probably knocked some guys out. For me even disturbing the guards at all was taboo. Whats the point of being a secret agent if everybody knows where you've been?

Yeah, that mission is relatively hard.

Yeah, that mission is relatively hard.

If you want to do it without disturbing the guards you have to get the timing exactly right, slipping around the side where you wait for the guard to move past, wait for the sniper to stop eyeing up the truck and the guy on the other truck to look away whereupon you slip in, grab the data, wait for another minute for the guards to do another circle and wait for the sniper/truck guard/patrolling guards to all look away from the entrance so you can make a bolt for the side of the guards truck and use that as cover from the sniper. You from then on its pretty easy but all that happening sequentially without a single mess up is damn hard, especially when you gotta do it all again if you get spotted at any other point during the operation.

I can complete this mission in about 7 minutes with out being detected or killing anyone :\
