IIRC It asks credentials the 1st time you launch the launcher. If you keep the launcher opened in background, it won't ask them again until you close it and relaunch it.
AFAIK the game is trying to connect to online services, that's why it crashes. If you add these launch options/arguments to the game via Steam it won't crash:
-offline -offline_mode
Still I highly recommend to use Fusion Mod downloading its latest version from GitHub, here's the link[github.com]. It's not just a widescreen fix, it has lots of other cool tweaks, including an ability to mod the game using ini files (e.g. I like to remove helmets from some types of enemies and/or reduce helmets' health bars, disable Active Sprint, tweak Perfectionist difficulty and add balaclavas to all suits). That's why it's called Fusion.
ok i think i figured out why it doesnt work, with a little help from chatgpt i fixed mine from not wanting to stay launched in steam. for me i have to have the games exe's set to launch in administrator mode, to do that just right click on the game in steam and go to manage and go to locate game files. inside the splinter cell folder navigate to the src folder and open it, then open system folder, inside here is where the games exes are, right click on both of them and select properties, go to compatibility and set them to launch as administrator. also do this with the splinter cell launcher exe as well.
the next thing you will want to do is make sure your ubisoft connect is set to launch in administrator mode. just go to your start button on your desktop and search for ubisoft connect and once you find it right click on it and go to properties and then compatibility and set it to launch as admin. then you will want to do the same with steam. steam will complain about being in compatibility mode but just ignore it. make sure after you have set steam to launch as admin that you restart steam. after everything is set to run as admin you should have achievements re enabled and steam should recognize the game is running. also for good measure, disable steam over lay and the ubisoft connect overlay for the game as well to prevent it from interfering with the games startup process.
Thank you.
