[Solved] Game not starting
I bought Splinter Cell: Blacklist (Deluxe Edition) through Steam. Installed normally and activated in UPlay everything just fine. However, the game simply won't start. UPlay shows as if the game is running. There is a processes running in windows refering to Blacklist Dx11, but nothing happens (neither a crash nor any kind of error msg). I looked up this problem around the forums (both in Steam and Ubisoft) and the common solution is the one involving editing VideoSettings.ini and altering a value there. But PLEASE NOTE that there is no Ubisoft\Blacklist folder in "My Documents". There is also no "VideoSettings.ini". Every single thread dealing with the problem seems to remain open and unanswered, so I'm at a loss on what to do and any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

If needed, here are my specs: windows 8, Intel Quad Core I7 (4700HQ), 8 gb ddr3 ram , GeForce Gtx 770 (3 gb video mem).

Thanks in advance.

Edit: getting back to update the post in case someone run into something similar. It appears that uninstalling the game and installing to the system (C:) partition did the trick. However, got to admit it is the first game in more than a decade (since the time when games needed the cd-rom to be exactly the D: and the game to be installed in C:) that I've seen something like this happening. But... glad it could be solved anyway.

I apologize for the inconvenience you have ran into.
Please try the following steps to resolve the problem, as it may fix your issue.

1. Navigate to the Splinter Cell Blacklist folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist

2. Locate Blacklist_Launcher.exe
a. Right Click and select properties
b. In the compatibility tab select the option to run as admin
3. Follow steps a & b for Blacklist_Launcher d3d11.exe
4. Create a shortcut on your desktop for whichever version you want to use.
5. Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.
6. Set the Target to: "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist \bin\Blacklist_Launcher d3d11.exe" -uplay_steam_mode

(Remember to include the quotation marks and change C to which ever drive the game is installed to.)

7. Apply changes and launch the game from the icon.

Please keep in mind that this may vary due to different installation paths or file names. If this is the case, please contact our Tech team directly so we may provide a further assistance. I would also request sending in your dxdiag and msinfo. You may submit a ticket via "my questions" here: https://support.ubi.com/

Thanks a lot for the quick response. But even following the steps provided, the behaviour remains pretty much the same. I tried uninstalling and I'm right now downloading it again to the default library folder in the system partition (never used it for any game, but I've seen reports about some cases being solved that way). It will still take a good 5 hours to finish this process, but should the problem persist, I'll try submiting a ticket using the link provided.

Necro: If ANYONE is still having this problem Try navigating to your Blacklist installation folder... \Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM

drag "Systemdetection.dll" to another folder or your desktop, keeping it for later in-case of patch, etc.

Load the game again, it should go through.

People are also saying that you may need the game installed on your main drive.

The last thing I've seen is of you see the cmd appear, Close out of Uplay completely and try rebooting it.

Coming back 5 years later and I'm glad to see I could help some of you! I updated this with the other troubleshooting tips I've seen in hopes of helping others. Best of luck friends!

Didnt work for me.

The issue I found was that Ubisoft games NEED to be installed on your main hard drive. For me, this is absurd. My main hard drive is only 500gbs, meaning I can only download 2, maybe 3 games, if they're older and not worth 100 gigs each. It's ridiculous to think that I bought all these extra hard drives to store games on and then be forced to download them on the hard drive that is my smallest?? Why is this even the case? Why can EVERY OTHER GAME I download work when I download them onto my other hard drives but only Poobisoft HAS TO be downloaded on my main. Every Poobisoft game I have owned is like this. Why!? I want to use my other hard drives damn it. So let me. Fix your ♥♥♥♥ Poobisoft.

Many users experience a brief flicker of a cmd/command shell when starting the game via Steam, but the game does not start.

In this case, it is because a new Uplay version is active in the taskbar.
Exit this Uplay and restart Splinter Cell Blacklist in the Steam interface.

Now Uplay starts and asks for the access data for Uplay.
After that Splinter Cell Blacklist starts.

I still experience the issue where when I boot the game on steam or unisoft that it won’t launch and it flickers a cmd message on my system with windows 11. Bought the game on the ubisoft connect app same issue. How can I launch/start the game?
RaiseDennis Jan 6, 2024 @ 7:53pm
Also it continually asks me to login to ubisoft when I launch the game on either ubisoft connect launch or steam launch. It’s pretty weird that it does this.

I found another solution. But not a lot of you will like it. I bought the game on Ubisoft Connect App XD
