XML Manual Question…and Save Location
Nested in the game directory is an XML-encoded manual that I need a little help with—since I've never found any utility in this filetype, I never learned its ins and outs. There used to be an XML viewer on older Windows platforms that enabled users to view it as a legible document, and you used to be able to save an XML document's contents in plain text or enriched text format.

That application no longer exists in contemporary Microsoft platforms, and all the XML viewers I can find render it NOT as a legible document (like HTML, DOC, RTF, or TXT), but editable code-gibberish elements.

Anyone know how to get C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM\Books\Manual.xml to render as a legible, and therefore useful document?

And where's the save directory? Damn me if I can't find it.

Are you talking about this:

?

Why do you need that?

Yes…and "WHY?" You have to ask "why?" Are you unfamiliar with the utility and purpose of game manuals?

When I started PC gaming back in 1996 (I started console gaming in 1978), your game came on portable installation media, in a box, and inside was an actual book you could hold in your hands and read. Eventually the ditribution of games and manuals got to the point where the physical media was eliminated, but the executables and PDF files now serve the same purposes.

Users still need the manuals. If you can't understand that, then I am afraid any explanation I could offer would fail to illuminate the subject further.

I'll launch the game later and see if the XML file is accessible in-game (some developers have dropped even the PDF format, and present it as in-game viewable content, from a menu option).

Go to your steam library and right click on the splinter cell black list item click properties in the list. On the page that opens is options for the game and there are tabs including one to see local game files. I'm not sure where the game saves it's files. I think they are in the programs files(x86) folder with uplay. It is supposed to also save games in cloud if you have steam options set for that.

I don't have ANY trouble locating and viewing local files (witness the full path of the relevant file in my post). The problem is that the local file for the manual isn't comprehensibly viewable in its native format.

As for the save directory, there isn't any "Uplay" directory in Documents. There IS a Ubosoft directory…for the non-Steam version of Blacklist. The Save location for the STEAM version, however, eludes me yet.

EDIT #1: …as for Save files on the cloud? There isn't any access to them but for that provided by actual gameplay; one cannot delete them and replace them from local backups.

EDIT #2: I have determined that the XML manual is not viewable in-game.

Ok, well I was asking why do you need that for , for one reason, maybe you didn't know. So, the reason why what ever you're trying to do doesn't work, is because there is no manual.

So sorry, maybe I should have just said that from the beginning.

Also, most game here on Steam will offer the manual in two ways to get there, 1 click properties of the game and you will see it's link on the general tab, or 2 go to the game page and it's link is posted on the right hand side.

As an Example:

One sec while I check your advice. Some stuff I don't remember, not having done it in a while. Thanks.

There isn't any manual available, not even @ http://store.steampowered.com/app/235600/Tom_Clancys_Splinter_Cell_Blacklist

I appreciate the friendly and constructive effort, though.

EDIT: If there's no Manual option listed in the library pane, there's no manual available on the General tab of Properties, either—at least, I've never seen an exception to that.
