Disappearing froggos

I recently moved my frog breeding center to the pier outside of the Empty Lodge for quick access to areas through the portal gateways, but my frogs are disappearing. I released a bunch (15+) during the move, and there are only three still hanging around. Now when the tadpoles in my feeders grow up, there's a 75% chance they disappear I can't can't find them to use my new frog types. They seem to be jumping into deeper water? I don't have all the stone lily pads activated yet, I just got to the residential area.

Yes, any frog can disappear if it jumps into the deeper water (which they will do trying to escape you). Try to place the feeder in an area which isn't too close to deep water and catch one as it matures. Once you catch and discover a frog species, it should then randomly spawn around the world.

^ As above. They still kind of hang in place if they've got enough room, and it's relatively easy to find any species you've bred in the wild afterwards, but yeah can be stressful when you're in the middle of breeding for a specific ancestry line and you NEED to catch at least 1 preferably 2 of the buggers.

Frogs will remain in place if you put them into frog houses etc, though! (and sometimes will get in there of their own accord)
I put up a lot of houses and arches etc in in the large area behind the empty lodge and dump my extras there, and can usually easily find one or two of whatever variation I need right now if I couldn't find one around in the overworld.

I just lost two frogs this way. I have the impression that they were the only two representatives of their variant: the "cool" variant of the future frog. Will they respawn or am I at risk of never being able to "discover" this variant?

Frogs never disappear - when they jump into deep water they respawn somewhere else in the world.
