Unit line of sight and fire range
I noticed that normal infantry units have far better sight than scout cars. So now I'm using infantry to scout instead of scout cars. Are there specific scout cars that has better sight than others? I just assumed scout cars probably has the best sight range. But I was wrong. So does snipers have the best sight range in the game?

And also, machine gunners have far greater firing range than riflemen. I would think they should have at least the same range? Well I think I know why this is, else the machine gunners would be almost useless. Maybe just take riflemen range up a little bit but still under machine gunners range?

So what is the best way to scout?

MG troops are far from useless. With a bit of micro you can keep tons of infantry pinned down and kill them before they can do anything. I always use them over infantry for early missions until you get snipers in era II. Practically you can use only a MG/Sniper plus long range unit like AT or SPG and if there is a lot of infantry an additional light tank to complete most of the missions.

Realistically it's okay for MGs having a greater range than rifles. While technically most of the time they were the same caliber MGs came equipped with a bipod and sights that would allow for larger ranges (whilst being more practical) than rifles.

You're right. Now that I think about it MG's do out range rifles in most cases according to books and even movies. (On a ground war situation level, not talking about what the guns are actually capable of.) And I did not say MG's are useless. I meant they could become useless if rifles out ranged them.

Why is it possible to look up on cliffs? Cliffs in the base maps are not really of advantage, if the enemy can simply scout it from down with a sniper and then use artillery to clear the area.
If trees are in line of sight, then it is not possible to see through, but cliffs are useless. In my opinion this really needs a fix.

It would help a lot with base defences, where the defender is aready in disadventage in case that he has to defend several ways

I haven't noticed that (yet). But I have noticed how sight is just birds eye view if that makes any sense, like how it use to be in pretty much all RTS games in history up until recently (Like CoH2 has true sight). And it made me realize how unrealistic this feels having for example a sniper scouting and being able to see 360 degrees around him in the middle of a town with buildings in the way. (Or maybe I'm thinking of the binoculars, as I do remember now that units can be hidden around corners sometimes.)

infantry can't see over the inside area of the cliff, they can just see the denfence strcture at the rear of the cliff. one can only use scout plane or attack plane to get sight.

Speaking of cliffs, I find it quite silly that troops stationed on cliff can't fire down bellow.

I was testing my base defense and i positioned lot of troops on cliffs. When attacking my own base, my sniper can see all the troops on the top of the cliffs and the artillerie can directly shoot them down. Doesnt matter if the units are at the rear of the cliff or further away. I noteiced however, that some cliffs truly hide units, but only some.
