There are so many things that needs better explaining.
It is clear the newer generation of Game Dev's Need to be educated on what a Demonstration Game play is supposed to be....
which after 30 years plus of games they shouldnt need it but;
Let me enlighten.
Demonstration Games
1. Complete tutorial. Generation 1 for demos
2. Sample completed levels of game dynamic taken from.
newb level, midd game level, and end game level of generation 1
|( unless you are on like generation 5 of the game, then update to gen 5)
(example with this game, newb level sample: gather materials make this tool, mid game here is a placed building add onto it. end game sample, hey here is a completed functional bases...upgrade it and play/modify it for 2 hours).
3. If you have a intro video that should also be a part of the playable demo.
The game itself should always match the generation 1 full game content and match the genre of the game...
There is no tutorial.. and it says its 17% of the game...
The start up mission basically says recover your gear....
yet after 20 minutes i still couldn't find nickel.
This demo left this is Meh maybe in the F2P Catagory
Its not enticing me to spend on it.
base build meh... couldn't find the grid or controls
fly back to ship every minute or so oh boy...
I grew bored of raft very quickly and this feels very Rafty in space.
I like little more immersion in my survivals
like hey space parkour off the asteroid and slam your drill in..
show sum hand grab action while the drill drills.
place your space holobluprint the drop the plates in places and press sum buttons to put in screws/ plates. the use this tool to seal up cracks...
the mass recycle tool will destroy and recycle components warning you will loose some stuff due to the laws of recycle conversation lol.....
Immersion with pause-ablity is what Gamer's want in 2023.
Repeated tasks with extra Grindness with little to no progress and no replayablity with a different outcome; as well as afk always self run city building no way and are a
After raft was completed its player base died..
dont make the same mistakes those devs did....
and have a
I'm sorry but this is no excuse for lack of tutorial and early game resources.
A demo should give players a good introduction to what a game is about, so they know what to expect from it when it is released.
A demo should also give players time to try out the mechanics and exploration in their own pace, meaning you shouldn't make basic resources like food and water be limited.
Not everyone play at the same pace, I did finish the little content there was and then started to experiment with building more than just a tiny outpost, but my world ran out of ice and organic, so the only food/water I could get was from the few loot crates that did seem to respawn once in a while, however it wasn't even close enough to keep me alive.
Here is the problem as I see it, the game is pretty much a sort of raft game in space, only with the difference that you not really moving or resources moving into your reach, so it becomes a grab stuff until there is no more left and move on.
Yes there are 2 quests besides the initial tutorial quest to get some necessary upgrades to your suit, and there will probably be some more when it is released + a few more things to craft and do.
Basically it looks to be a small looter game where you gather stuff to build a base and decorate it, nothing really wrong with that except that the mechanics feels very simple and clunky.
The demo left me with the impression of a simple little time sink game mostly made of assets that may be shallow in content and challenges, but still perhaps worth a few hours for a few bucks.
I have no idea what the price point will be, but many similar small indie games mostly made from marketplace assets are priced at ridiculous amounts of money(20-30$).
But see for yourself, how active is this forum and their discord?
It is not the worst demo launch I have seen, but also not a good one either, it never really gave me an idea what this game is supposed to become other than a simple time sink :)
Like the best games it's not just a "grab stuff and craft" survival game.
Just like real life there are situations that need good old structured thought and out-of-the-ordinary approaches.
It's also worth pointing out that ...
THIS IS A DEMO.
I put that in caps because some folk seem to have missed that.
Also, I find it easy to laugh at the pickles I get myself into.
i find fabric all over and in every side you go you find some sort of important recource by abundance!
oxigen? yes at start but as you progress also your oxigen increaeses and you get vehicles, even one you can breath in! for longer trips.
It is not like Take on mars, where you put a suit on and have air for 2,5hrs real time :) altho i would have liked it more, butthe game is not setup for that. if you can go all the way to the other side, you unlock thing that should not yet be unlocked. or spoils the game mechanic.
you start of close to the base, and it grows exponentially.
The trick is to think small at start and not hoarder like!!!! use only what u need till you get bigger!
Save the game restart it and in my game all recources r back. exfdept those that r planted in boxes and so on, but then again you can even go back many time to the room where you have to place a power cell. after a while it respawn the INGOTS like iron there in a open box.
If i was able to go very far at once , I lose track of the game and it becomes chaos in what to do or where to go. thisway your gently thrown in the game. and i like it. it makes you go slow and relax, instead of haste and run.
1 trip around and i have oxigen, food and water for at least 30 min real time game play.
Als opeople r to scared to explore, and use up their recources while they could have progressed a long time before, they stay in their safe place to long. and gather and gather and gather. :)
why it does it with vehicles howover is a huge ??? for me, especially if you can breath in it :)
