Power?
Where can I find a scannable power source? It looks like there's solar panels but I can't find any. I can't do much until I have a powered base. I've found all sorts of other blueprints though. It would be nice if some blueprints were automatically unlocked as default when you you get the habitat builder.

The initial corridor solar cells are automatically unlocked for you.

Oooohhhhh. Thanks! Kind of odd to make power generation tied to the corridor though.

That's where they go, so it makes sense... And it's sort of part of the tutorial where the game literally gives you a list of what you should do and in what order...

Corridor Solar Panels, Solar Panel Extensions (makes the CSP's longer), Corridor Small Battery, Corridor Laser Miner. Most things are mounted on Corridors. The Corridor Large Battery requires TWO Corridors connected to each other and bridges across them...

Where do people get this kind of nonsense from? Or are you trolling? The current game has only one item called Big Habitat Battery which goes on the corridor and it does not require two corridors by any means. It is attached to a single corridor, two batteries per corridor, just like the small ones. Do you have access to locked content with a bigger battery or are you just speaking out of your ass?

this is incorrect... here's a pic of my ice collecting station...

this is a hatch corridor with a laser on top (and bottom) connected to a half-corridor connected to a regular corridor with large battery on top (and bottom)... i can't recall if it is then connected to another half-corridor and then the room or if no half-corridor between the normal one and the room...

i try to always put a half corridor between normal corridors and hatch corridors and on rooms for space reasons... especially when using the solar panels that attach to the sides of corridors... sadly, i forget sometimes and having to take things apart to put one in is a real ugh-fest...

This is not true in my playthrough... I came here to figure out how to get power as well. There are no tutorial hints telling me anything about building corridors in order to be able to build power.
Could be some type of tutorial bug?

perhaps the tutorials could use a little more work but it does tell you to build four things right off the bat... the hatch corridor, the room, the solar panels, and the battery... it may not specifically say that the solar attaches to the sides of the corridors... with discovery* being part of the way a lot of things work these days, one quickly discovers that the only place the solar can attach is on the corridor sides... that's followed by discovering the only place the batteries can attach is the top and bottom of corridors... learning about zooming the part in and out is a little bit harder thing to discovery, though... i use a controller and it took me a few minutes to figure it out...

* : discovery meaning that you discover things about what you are using on your own with no specific pointers to it... a huge amount of stuff uses discovery these days... i see it in applications and simulators all the time... it is definitely a big thing in games of all types...

When you mouse over the solar panels and batteries in the build menu, the game tells you that you need to put them on the top/bottom/side of corridors in a very bright blue eye catching color. Not sure how much more tutorialized that needs to be.

Don’t you have to fly over to the first marked location and get the builder tool first then it tells you to build your first hab?

I never received tutorial messages saying any of what you just said above. That's what I'm saying.
When I first started the game, I got the tutorials about building the very first items... but those were the only tutorial messages I received.
I just double checked again. I just got the ability to build modules, so I haven't even built my first corridor yet and there are NO tutorial messages saying anything. That's why I had no idea how to use power.

It should appear when you pick up the build tool. I don't remember the exact order now, but it will tell you first to build a room, a corridor and an airlock. Once you build those, it will tell you to build a power panel, a solar panel and a battery. That is the last tutorial message iirc. If it really didn't happen for you, then submit a bug in the bug thread.

Couple things to know about power:

1) Power is shared sector-wide (for now) so can use power anywhere but not in other asteroid belts there you have to start from scratch

2) Every structure or device need some energy capacity (like a battery) if you build more than you have battery capacity the whole system shuts down. The basic battery needs silver, copper, iron.

I would recommend to avoid using the larger battery for now because they need advanced circuits and they in turn need Celestine which is currently a very limited resource which does not respawn and they provide not even double (200 vs. 125).

3) Alongside the capacity you also need power by solar panels how many depends a lot on how you use the power but especially when a lot of autominers are active you may run low.

Solar panels are attached to the side of corridors or on the roof of domes a larger version. The corridor version can be extended later endlessly in one direction with an extension module so reserve some space.

I built something like 15 large batteries and still have celestite over, so I can build 2 or 3 more. I also have 3 teleportation gates and most upgrade modules to T3. There is enough for now to play even if it's bugged and doesn't respawn. You can have 3000 power capacity in your base and unless you build deposit miners everywhere, or make 2 main bases with all machines duplicated inside you won't be able to use it all up.

Personally I think this is a weird way to do power, do prefer the way subnautica did it.
