You can set up a coop campaign game by choosing "Online" from the main menu, and then either "Campaign" or "Campaign Remix". If you want to make it public, untick "create private game", or tick it if you don't want randoms to be able to join in. If set to non-private, theoretically the game checks for existing lobbies at this point, but it usually fails to find one and creates your own. Once in the loadout menu, in order to invite friends, you have to hit "Options", then "Invite Friends"; Insect Armageddon allows up to 3 players total to play together.
I have not much experience with public lobbies, but as far as I'm concerned, it supports drop-in and drop-out, meaning that if bots are enabled, players dropping out will be automatically replaced by bots while open player slots taken by bots can be taken by players when dropping in anytime during a mission.
On a side note, in order to look for public lobbies, you can untick "create private game", then choose "any" for both difficulty and mission, which will look for any existing public lobbies. Again, it will hardly ever find one, and then create a lobby of your own with random difficulty/mission selection instead.
There is also a survival mode, which allows for up to 6 players to play together, but only supports drop-out, not drop-in, given that this would defy the objectives of survival.
Probably gonna post here when we are done. Might take 2 months (playing weekly on thursday/sunday evening).
Edit: So I can't play with others because of power difference otherwise. That's why I will wait with that untill the current playthrough is done.
about difference tier you cant play with other?
why survival cant play with Ai?
While it is possible to play with others who have a different tier weaponry and characters, I would advice against it.
Reason: High chance of people feeling useless, left out or a burdon to the rest.
Mitigation: Communication with distinct roles (anti-air, trash cleaning, healer etc.), focus on goofing around.
I have never played survival, so I wouldn't know. Campaign does have AI, but on Inferno difficulty useless for anti-air. Drop ships will not be targeted from my experience, so if you don't have the right weapons to deal with those (brought 2 shotguns?
I find sharing pain and challenges bonding. So others being overpowered or unable to just let you have some points as well ruins the fun for me personally.
