How to get gold star

I've managed to get 3 stars on a few maps but I don't know the criteria for getting a gold star.

Golden stars are awarded when a level is completed on Hard difficulty.

Ah i see, weird i don't remember completing the first two on hard but i obviously did at some point.

It doesn't automatically change the level to hard the second time you play it? I got some gold badges after playing the level again but I dont remember changing difficulty.

Snappyguy - There is a bug where the selected difficulty is not displayed correctly, e.g. normal is shown and you'll be fighting in the hard difficulty. The problem may occur when you switch difficulties. I myself had a golden star in a level because of it (cycled once through the difficulty settings) but no normal stars.

Uhh... I haven't played any level on hard (I play them on normal), yet I keep getting gold stars. Strange.

I got gold star on the first level.. but no matter what I do.. I am not able to get a gold star on the second one.. am I missing something? >_<
(I tried finishing it in hard.. multiple times)

I've had some problem here too. I've cleared my save and replayed, but now even after completing a level in hard, I don't get the gold star. (Even at full life.)

Same here. I completed "Plus" on hard many times now. Without taking any damage too. At the end I get 3 stars but not the gold star. Something is broken.

I also noticed that randomly my towers get the "new" text on them. Even the gatling gun which was used many times.

Same. Perfect game on hard and still no gold star.
