Shadowrun Returns

Is there any 'best' or most enjoyable class/build to play with?
Would anyone recommend any builds to play with?

I found great joy in playing an elf mage with a touch of shamanism (enough to gran Haste and totem). Carisma was high already due to race and development (etiquette love) so it seemed natural.
Didn't bother with summons (save for the scenario-based free ones). My opinion regarding spirits is either you got full on or don't bother at all.

I had fun starting out w/ a street sam. I branched into some contradictory skill trees, like casting, to be able to heal myself. I have found this to be an invaluable tool, despite the increased cool-down time due to cyberware. I know these 2 skill sets are ideologically opposed in the SR universe, but hey, the game mechanics make it viable. I also beefed up decking, it turned out to be semi-useless, but I really enjoy the matrix stuff and I think it will be cool w/ matrix-heavy UGC.

I've found w/ my other runners that as long as you have some kind of strong offensive capability and good Body, you'll be fine.

I believe a decker\shaman <charisma> and any weapon u can get 'almost all' experience\reward...i never used any rigger so i cant say if their drones can add more to the experience outside the combats :)

While there isn't that much hacking to be done in the main campaign, decking is still one of the best skill you can pick up. It will make many situation easier and there's some extra stuff that you can only pick up if you have a high decking score.

Decker is the most fun, for me. Getting the let the Excalibur buck in the second to last run is a hoot. Decking also gets you easy access to all sorts of stuff throughout the game. Combined with a 4+ Charisma, you can get into, out of, and past just about anything .

Haven't tried any mage skills, but all of the guns have merit. I like pistol best for overall utility.

A chi master to start, you end up with 7 to 9 STR, CC, MW, 5 to 7 Body, 3 to 4 quick/dodge, 6 WP (all you need, since thats last chi weapon upgrade) 2 casting (for heal) 6 chi casting (for triple attack). You add more body or more quick/dodge depending. You run with 30 to 37% crit, hit like a truck, and that triple attack from chi is pure unadulterated awesome.

Riggers are fun, especially once you get Drones with 4 AP, 2 of them.

2 drones with 4 AP + Cyberdeck means 2 guards to cover you while in Matrix. The "Guardian" drone resupplies free during new scenes (but not within the same scene so be careful). 2 free medkits per level aint bad.

Only, it doesn't. The drones don't stay active while you're in the Matrix. Too bad, though. :/

Aww, hadn't gotten my rigger to that point yet.

Riggers are still fun though.

Start by throwing out your preconceptions about what Shadowrun is, and what you can do there. They will be wrong, and you will be diappointed. This is a different game.

Try to find something within the mechanics that is intersting to you. For most people, this comes as some sort of combination of skills... Assault Rifle + Shaman Haste. Melee Weapon + Mage Heals. Decker + Summoner.

Realize that, with enough runs through UGC, you will be able to do literally everything. How you get there is going to determine your level of fun, so try to find something that is interesting and challenging at the mid-game... you'll be spending a lot of time there.

In the end, while there may be a number of superior class combinations, there's no gimped class. The only way you can gimp yourself is if you don't think before you act. Always look for a tactical advantage; it's not cheating if you live through it. Heal. Use overwatch. Take care of your friends, even if they don't offer cred, and never trust a dragon.

What kind of class you enjoy playing most is largely personal preference, but make sure it is a combat oriented class.

I enjoyed playing as a shaman, it's just a shame the summoning is glitched. Several times I'd summon something from the environment, then after I eventually lost control of it, I summoned something else - but it just stood there and couldn't be controlled. By this point I only had 1AP per turn. I also found most of the other spells pretty pointless as whatever eventual advantange you'd get from, say, an ally having 1 extra AP for a bit, wouldn't usually offset just shooting an enemy and finishing them off. Yes, technically you're trading one attack of your own for 3 bonus attacks for an ally, but typically you want to do as much damage as soon as possible to reduce the damage you're taking.

make your own version of Neo

Entirely personal preference.. I ALWAYS make shamans in Shadowrun. I don't know why.. its just what I find fun. I love the idea/lore.
