Shadowrun Returns

According to my own experiences I found, the utility man the most worthless among the hireable runners, I did the mistake of hiring this dude on the last mission and all that I could do with this guy was to use him as cannon fodder, to receive or bait incoming attacks. He was really, that useless. His aim was terrible, even at close range he would miss the shot due to his ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pistol skills. The magic he wielded, was also quite laughable, having few low range spells with low level offensive spells with hopeless chance to hit any target, again made this guy useless as a brick made of bubblegum. Oh, and he had also one drone, all I can say that the quality inspections were quite lax when making this turd thrower. Oh well.

The runner can be hired from nephilim network, and his name was alexander or something russian, either way though, this guy is an perfect example on just how bad can "jack of all trades" builds can turn out, instead of being "average" at everything it was more like being BAD at doing everything.

Do you guys have similar horror stories at recruiting terrible and weak runners, during some of the harder missions, where their effectiveness would jeopardize the whole mission?

If so please share.

Burnt out mage

She has so much cyberware that her spells are on an incredibally long cool down, but she's got so many skill points into willpower and spellpower that she's not as good as some of the others who speciallized.

One thing I've noticed that Nephilim hires are not always the best hired. There's one or two I like, but the rest are meh..

the storyline girl who can talk to the dead was the worst so far. Missed every single shot.
Took me ages to finish the hospital quest with her in the team

Why were you even attempting to even shoot with her?

Shannon? I had no problem with her, hit nearly every time she fired. She fired because she didn't always have situationally beneficial spells. *shrugs*

I've never hired anyone off the Nephilim Network. I went through my entire first run with whatever character the story told me to have, plus a Troll named Full Monte. He was a badass. :D I'm also really selective of who I hire, though. Have to have a name I can comfortably say, a bit of text I like, etc. Basically, if I wouldn't enjoy a conversation with them, I don't want to hire them. So there are usually only two or three I can hire. It's cool, though; I'm making burritos and have completely forgotten the point. Mmm, burritos...

And what about great team members for low monies? Technoshaman was very cool, imho.

I didn't have a problem with her either but shooting is not a priority action for her to take :D It was all about using her haste every time and slow if available and shooting only if nothing else to do.

Also not everyone on Nephilim Network is worth hiring for the most part so not surprised you didn't hire anyone from there. Generally everyone on the Neph network is "multi classed" so to speak anyway in either different roles or different skillsets where as the Fixer contacts will generally be a little more focused in where they put their skills. Say a combat runner might have points in shotguns from the Fixer contact list but a Neph combat runner might have same amount of points in shotguns and rifles. There was one decent Neph Network runner that i used for cheap and that was the dual Decker+Rigger guy. Good rigging and decking skills but crappy aim, he did come with an S class drone though so it didn't matter. The Weapons Master guy was fairly good too just for diverse firepower lategame.

I can't remember his name but there was a dwarf who had a bunch of support magic spells (armour, accuracy, haste etc and some spell that let you place 5 tiles of flames for area denial) with quick cool-down times on all of them. I think it was armour that had 0 cooldown so you just spammed that on everyone for an easy +3 armour throughout a fight. Haste was 2 turn cooldown and the extra AP was mind-bogglingly good. He was cheap too, around 1.5k if memory serves.

I was underwhelmed by the Nephilim Network selection.

The dwarf shaman has been awful I actually rewound the game just so I could hire someone different. Could be I just haven't learned how to use shamen yet, but her spells don't seem remotely useful, she can't hit the broad side of a barn, and her summoned spirits were up at 30%+ after 2-3 rounds.

I'd have to go with Tsilon from the Nephilim Network. A physical adept with no close combat skills whatsoever. She instead uses a Pistol...poorly.

But in her favor, she's cheaper than most runners. So there's that.

I didn't have many problems with her pistol, but I hardly had to use it either. They give you enough summon tokens and random world spirits to summon that you can basically just use her as a spirit-bot and buff-caster for all the fights.

Not that you would do it mid-run but is there any way to remove companions?
wirednight Aug 4, 2013 @ 1:29am
Remove sure, just have them die. Can't replace them though until after the run.
Stitched Aug 4, 2013 @ 1:48am
That seems a bit of an oversight. Can you do it with user-generated content?

oversight? Replacing runners mid-run makes no logical sense whatsoever.

You didn't read what I wrote ("Not that I would do it mid-run...")

I want the ability to remove them between missions or in user generated content and can't see controls to do it in either situation.
