Why can't the decker I hired hack a door?
Seriously, that is really dumb. I pay a bunch of money to bring along a decker specifically to hack things, and I find a door that requires hacking and I can't use her to hack it? What is even the point of hiring a decker then?

I like the game and all, but some of these things I get the feeling they put no thought into.

In the brotherhood building, there is a door hidden behind a vending machine. It requires decking 1. But it only seems to look at my main characters skill, who isn't a decker.

I've noticed quite a few doors that have the lock icon and a terminal next to them in the scene the first time you go there, but you can't interact with the doors or the terminals like the first hackable door in the game, and when you revisit the same location later on, the icons for the doors are gone, making them look like any other non-functional piece of scenery.

EDIT: But since that's not the case here, I'd have to go with your assumption that it's only looking at your main character's skills, not your companions.

If you didn't knock the cook out with the chloroform, maybe you can enter combat and manually control your Decker to hack the door?

If this is the door you need to hack behind the turrets in the corp run...then I can help you. There is a room besides the corridor with a computer with a screen next to it (for cover) if you select any of your characters other than the Decker the interact symbol will not appear, however if you select him you should spot an interact point on that computer allowing you to jack into the corporate system. In there you can overwrite the door, hope this helps!
I managed to be stuck on that part for a while.

Clearly your character is very anti-social and doesn't have the guts to ask his decker for help :)

....aaaaand I was wrong on which door.... that door I opened by grabbing some lard or something from the storage room to grease up the floor.

Haha. Drat, and I though having 10 charisma was going to be worth something! :)

There's another way to open that door without requiring decking.
Big Mad Wolf Jul 27, 2013 @ 2:19pm
Even in combat mode decker can only hack if they can enter the matrix, otherwise it won't work, what is kind of stupid.

Yeah, but what is the point in hiring a decker if they can't hack? Its just silly.

Doesn't help the TS much: you're supposed to be a band of shadowrunnerS. Not a shadowrunner with a couple of drones following you. Or worse than drones: you can't make use of their abilities.

It's a linear-as-hell single-player adventure. True to the Shadowrun lore and well worth the asked price, but please don't post crap responses like that.

I wish that I could get that door open, because I was in the exact same spot. From now on, I guess I have to give Decking 1 to all my characters or they will be locked out of content as a punishment if I don't.

Likewise with the level 5 safecrack you get later, I had a decker who should have been able to do that (I think) but since I'm not in combat at that point, no go.

The safe in the hive? I were still in combat mode but couldn't hack with the decker clicken on it, so it makes no difference. And my decker had decking 5 for sure, checked it.
