@ OP: So far, I haven't been able to upgrade any cyberware I've bought. I got double leg replacements for basic and couldn't replace them when the next best kind came out. It's possible I'm missing something there (came here hoping to find out, haha) but that's been my experience so far. Dunno if there is Bioware, not sure on essence cost. AFAIK you don't get essence back. The most common way that this was handled is that if you replaced something that costs 2 essence with something that costs 1 essence, you don't get it back, BUT you basically have 1 point of free essence to spend on other cyberware stuff.
^ Just click plus, click on whatever part you want to replace and go.
To sum up:
- cyberware is PERMANENT (can't be removed, thus essence can't be increased/regained)
- you can UPGRADE cyberware with better cyberware
- you can never exceed the amount of cyberware limit through essence cap (meaning only combinations of cyberware up to maximum 5 essence work).
- as far as I've noticed, essence does NOT factor into the potency of spells. I could be wrong though
So Manabolt's 2-turn cooldown would become a three-turn one after getting 1 Essence worth of 'ware put in, for example.
Ah nice, missed that on my playthrough. Guess no cyberware for my mage then I guess. Thanks.
