Shadowrun Returns

Compared to Shadowrun on Sega Geneseis?
I'm old, and played through the first Shadowrun on Sega Genesis, with cybernetics, hacking nodes, Black ICe, corporation runs etc.

Anyone know how this stacks up to the original Shadowrun? It was one of my all time favorite games!

Is it still true to the original William Gibson motifs from Neuromancer, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive? I loved the fact that his name came up in the original on Genesis as "Billy Gibson!":bandit:

this game, like the sega genesis "shadowrun" , is set in the "shadowrun" universe. I hope that answers your question thoroughly.

It's not like 2007's version, and it's not like Superman Returns...it's Shadowrun for sure. Good game, prepare to be engrossed though. I found myself playing without even watching the clock.

Shadowrun on the genesis came out in 94 where as the super nintendo version came out in 93. I am liking it so far but not very far into it.

That and the story links the SNES version and Genesis version together. Other than that, they are very different games. The Genesis one played a bit like Diablo, the SNES plays... Well... Like Shadowrun, I would have to say. Not many games that play like the SNES Shadowrun XD

also, one of the first fan "mods" in the workshop is a stab at a remake of the old story, so the more fans that pick up the editor - the more fun for all in the months ahead.

If you are looking for a game that was as open and 'vast' as the Sega one, its not here. I'm not saying this is a bad game, it just is not what I was looking for when I was hoping for a game similar to the Sega version. How I miss decking and making loads of cash through breaking into high security corps!

It doesn't play the same really. The Snes and sega versions combat was real-time and you aimed your cursor at the enemies to shoot them and such. Still running around talking to people though of course but the controls are different and most everything else is too. The view of the game is similar and the universe is the same. I do like the darker look of SR:R, it pulls off what the old consoles couldn't with the lighting and feel.

Also iirc the sega version was shorter and not as well fleshed out as the SNES one. Though that is the one that got me into shadowrun in the first place. :)
Now I want to fire up the snes..

The old ones had more roaming too/

Besides the combat (SEGA real-time, now turn-based) it reminds me a lot of the SEGA version in tems of the RP elements like talking to people, how the place looks, helping other people (or not). I could imagine a remake of the old story in the new game - it sure could be done.

So for me, as a fan of the old SEGA game this really is a winner. Only thing I miss is the old save feature. Would be nice to have that as an option to the auto save.

I appreciate all the answers, one last Q: Can you deck in this? Is there a cyberspace equivalent? I loved fighting "humans" in the real world, then battling IC (Intrusion Countermeasures) in the cyber world, anything like that here?:bandit:

I was more hoping for one like the Genesis one and was very highly disappointed. it's structure is more linear than the SNES one. The cyberspace fighting is an exact replica of the standard fighting, but with different attacks due to being in cyberspace. you can even take cover against "obstacles".
