Shadowrun Returns

Character name thread.
Anyone wanna give suggestions for naming my Human Decker? Also I believe the game likes to use a handle instead of an actual name but eh. Any takers? :P Also throw down your own characters for naming.

My human Decker (actually Hacker, because we played SR4) in my SR group referred to himself as Vega.

I wanted to name him "Case" But I'm scared silly that an NPC or PC will already be named that. Amitage, Neuromancer and all that.
Actually this thread would be good for me, too. While I like Shadowrun and have played the Genesis game, I've never played the tabletop game and this will be the closest I've ever come to a chance to do so.

Would it be more fitting to the lore for me to give my guy a normal name, or a street slang name? And what kinds of names fit the setting?

http://harebrained-schemes.com/shadowrun/primer/ There is a PDF primer here with the timeline of events, major PCs and such. Might not help you with all the details but it seems SR uses a mix of slang handles and real names.

It depends, what kind of character you are playing. Is he proud to be a Shadowrunner? Pick a nickname. Does he hate, what he does, or does he think, he is in some way "better" then other runners? Give him a real name.

My guy is probably gonna be a white hat decker. I always have problems doing the "chaotic route" which probably makes me a failed Shadowrunner lol.

Shadowrunners are criminals per definition...so maybe you wanna go, with a "real name" (but probably not your real real name ;)) to differentiate from this "Runner Scum".

My main character's name is Always Lorentz Rutabaga. With Melon McMathis, and Abda Hussein, Bade Wilks.

The Abda and Bade names came from final fantasy when only four characters were allowed (Bade being the fighter, Abda being the theif... myst and blak were the white/black mages, but I rarely use those names, just fitting at the time back then) , Rutabaga was my go to name for my characters in the old sierra Quest for Glory series (Hero's Quest). Melon, comes from my sims characters, which came from the character design feature letting me make a huge head with a tiny face. Lorentz is my nick I use pretty much everywhere.

With the names I've gathered over the years, I just use them because I'm not all too creative...or maybe just lazy.

Shadowrun >noun: Any movement, action, or series of such made in carrying out plans which are illegal or quasillegal.

You are the criminal. Take heart though chummer, no matter how immoral, unethical, or corrupt your actions may be or seem to be, you'll never be as bad as the megacorps themselves.

Besides, you got paid.

That said, most runners have a street name, a monicker they chose or was given to them by others. It's almost never their real name since what runners do is illegal, and giving the "powers that be" your real name while you break the law for them (or against them) is just stupid.

Think codenames and callsigns like what you see pilots get, or like in contempory pulp fiction like G.I. Joe.

Some of the famous street names are: Fastjack, Dodger, Wedge, Sally Tsung, Winger, Nightfire, The Neon Samurai, Ghost Who Walks Inside.

Get the picture? Good. Now pick a name and pull a job.

Oh, and never, EVER make a deal with a dragon.

Silver Samurai is one I've used in the past (Female Human Decker)... another I'm going to be adopting is Lockjaw for a Troll Street Samurai...

After that, just going to "wing it"...

Waiting on someone using Hiro Protagonist or Deliverator for their Street Samurai. ;)

I'll probably go with names from previous long term characters, Decker was 'Frost', mage was 'AE' and (mouse) shaman was 'Grain'. I really wish I could remember what I called my sammie though...
