I havn't hooked up the system in years (maybe like 5). I used to replay the sega shadowrun every few years (along with all the old might and magics..and Diablo II)...but in the last 5 or so years I've been so backlogged with games (party due to steam!!) that I have not gone back and played them.
But I just can't resist doing so in prep for this game:)
Thanks again!!
I'm not going to bore you with the specific DMCA regulations (you can look them up yourself if you really want to) but suffice to say they're almost always illegal. Emulators aren't because they don't violate any law, ROMs violate copyright laws. So while it doesn't make sense to use emulators without ROMs, it is legal. Just like it is legal to have an empty beer bottle if you're under 16 but not have alcohol.
There is no 24/48 hour exemption. Linking to copyrighted content, hosting it and downloading it is always illegal.
You can get in trouble for downloading ROMs of games no longer sold as well, and hosting illegal content is illegal too.
Nintendo explains it pretty well on their legal page.
Copyrights last for 75 years so all video games are still protected until later this century.
Sure there is. The companies that are releasing said older games (classic game packs) can most certainly pursue an infringer.
Not saying anyone will ever get caught. I'm saying it is illegal. And clearly so.
Vaporware is a term for products that never see the light of day after being announced. Basically, it's for those games that get hyped up and then simply disappear without any announcement to that effect. They vanish.. like vanpor.
I think you are looking for something like games that are no longer supported.
There is also the term "abandonware" but this is usually reserved for products from companies that are still operating that are no longer supported or never were supported without official acknowledgement of that discontinued support.
If I really enjoy Shadowrun returns, I'll probably buy it on my Ipad as well (Still wish they would start releasing games for multiple platforms with one purchase though).
I'm really hoping that Shadowrun Returns expands on the awesome fun that I had with the original sega shadowrun game. I would really love to see more character choices (Adepts would be awesome. I so loved my Troll Adept in PnP version). I don't even need a much longer story etc then the original...as long as I have more options on how to play through it. Add in player based missions from the editors ...and well I could be playing it for years!! That would really rule:)
I've played the game a ton of times over the years, but usually didn't play as a shaman.....and I never played as a shaman that ended up getting a bunch of implants. I think I once did go with a shaman that had a datajack..and smartlink for shooting.....but I never dropped a shamans essense below 5.
I'm gonna test it and see, cause if you could get BOTH dermal plating and the defensive talisman..and especially if you could get the combat pool boost talisman as well, that could really make you hard to damage.
Kinda almost like making an adept in a way:)
In theory, nothing is holding a shaman back from getting as much cyberware as a samuri...but with the added bonus of being able to use spellcaster only boosts as well.
Not only did you misuse the term "vaporware" you're also completely wrong. They are illegal under almost all circumstances in the US

I'm not an authority on the law and I have tons of questions, like you. For example, is it legal to create a ROM backup of a physical cartidge that I own and then open that specific file with an emulator on my pc or n7?
Also, this looks kinda interesting: https://www.retrode.com/
Nowadays, there seems to be a bunch of retro-hardware-alternatives going around: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/
While one has not been made yet, there are a couple of backers - maybe more - working toward remaking the sega and SNES shadowrun games using the level editor of Shadowrun Returns.
As far as min/maxing, going the Shaman rout is the best because it gives you a feature not accessible to the other classes. The other classes give you an advantage in items, cyberware, or stat points, but the Shaman can buy and access everything the other two classes have access to. So, even if you plan on bringing your essence down to .1, you can still effectively use non-scaling abilities like Invisibility that greatly help corp runs. The disadvantage is the slower/weaker start, but if you're min/maxing that doesn't really matter at all. Dermal Armor, Wired Reflexes, Smart Link, Datajack, they all work just as well on a Shaman as any other class.
the people who made those games are getting NONE of that money. if you want to spend money on used cartridges that are over twenty years old feel free. i'll continue to play my kaga fusion. if they ever bring those games to steam i'll buy them in a heart beat, but it's not going to happen.
