Also, that is Shadowrun in name only. That game has nothing to do with the actual Shadowrun story line or plot. It was basically a poor attempt to make an arena shooter with a semi-known name. So Shadowrun is returning as in they are making a game that is more in line with the Pen and Paper original and the SNES and SEGA console versions.
In other words, the 2007 Shadowrun has nothing to actually do with Shadowrun.
They failed. Only people associated with Playshadowrun.com play anymore....
The 360 Shadowrun is the lie. A most horrid and fetid LIE.
Shadowrun has been around since the 80's. And we all know what happens when a beloved franchise is turned into some vapid multiplayer shooter.
EDIT: OP must be young. Or, barring that, never played the Super Nintendo or Genesis Shadowruns.
I looked through an online guide to the shooter a while back, mainly on the magical side of things. None of those spells were from the PnP game. Teleport; isn't possible in PnP, Tree of Life; closest thing is a healing spell more akin to Cure X Wounds spells from DnD, Resurrect; not possible with magic, Strangle; not sure on this one but any movement-impeding spells in the PnP wouldn't be as overt as crystals growing out of the ground, Gust; something that summoned air elementals would do for you, Smoke; I think only vampires and air elementals can do that in PnP (and I don't know if vampires are around in the era that SR:R is set in), Summon; wasn't a spell but a separate action (granted, akin to a spell) and the conjured spirits were often immune to bullets (unlike in the shooter where you can just shoot them to pieces).
The worse insult of all with that game, though, beyond it's blatant disregard of the PnP game's established story and feel, beyond leaving orks out of the game, beyond all of that...
The Ares Predator doesn't even look remotely like an Ares Predator.
This is the guide for those who have the morbid curiousity to see how Microsoft butchered the license: http://au.ign.com/wikis/shadowrun
Shadowrun:

The original Shadowrun was a 1989 pen and paper game, like D&D. A 1993 SNES game tried to emulate the gameplay but didn't have much of a following. Lots of die-hard Shadowrun fans didn't like the Xbox/PC game because Shadowrun is more of an RPG than an FPS. "Shadowrun: Returns" is an attempt at rebooting the style of the 1993 SNES Shadowrun and making it an RPG again.
I liked Shadowrun for the 360/PC
EDIT: Grammar
couldn't stand that game, was about as close to Shadowrun as Team Fortress 2 is...
EDIT: Not too sure about the proportions of the shooter's trolls, though - the PnP game's artists vary it that much...
That being said, I am happily waiting for this game. Played the pen and paper game, and lost a lot of time to the SNES and Sega Genesis versions.
