Can you make your own character?
That basically sells a game to me.

No, all you can do is give it a name.

You cant customize anything in the game either, its a solid rollercoaster

Not buying then, thanks.

Also very repetative, you go do mission, you come back to hub, maybe buy a new item, put together team, another mission.

Ignore him. You can completely make your own character in the game. Name, appearance, race, gender, abilities, portrait.

I started the game yesterday and finished it today. It is indeed quite linier and has a formula, but you can create and customize your own character like most RPG's. I just wish it were more sandboxy like KOTOR. I enjoyed it and don't feel like I wasted my money, but I do wish the game play was more engaging.

Or you can wait to buy Dragonfall directors cut..(It will be a stand-alone version of the DLC) in a couple of days. Slightly less linear, and the newer version will have slightly different battle mechanics that might be more appealing.

But yes, you can make your character, and you get Karma as you play to increase your stats and skills.. You can't customize your gear tho.. Least not in the base Game. If you never played the Pen and paper game, then you won't really know what you'll be missing either.

Yes, you can create your own character. You choose your gender, race, skin tone, hair, portrait, archetype, and skills. There's a ton of different gear in-game to customize your character with; weapons, armor, cyberdecks, programs, spells, etc. etc. etc. Oh yeah, and name.

Note that the rules change with UGC.

UGC authors can:

- lock you into playing a pre-created character (which may be critical to the story)
- let you create a character (possibly a very experienced and capable one, since the new character can be created with lots of karma -- analogous to XP in other systems, basically)
- let you import a character from a different campaign

So for something like "Shadowrun Unlimited", you'll start by creating an inexperienced character and build him up. For something like, say, "The Price of Conviction", the story necessarily constrains you to playing a specific character. For "Nightmare Harvest", you can import a character, and it's highly recommended that you import a rather experienced one.

As for other particulars -- there are no classes, per se, but karma limits do mean that unless you're playing a Monty Haul UGC (or cheating with the debug menu) you won't be able to afford to be expert in *all* skills; you'll need to specialize a bit. And there's always a magic <-> cyberware, tradeoff, too; if you're heavily wired and have completely rebuilt your body, you may be insanely fast with heavy built-in armor, but you won't be slinging spells with nearly the same ease as somebody who's body is largely untouched.
