Best Metatype for Adept?
Ok, since adepts aren't as versatile as they are in the tabletop version of the game, basically being set to be close combat (particularly unarmed), I'm curious to see which metatype (troll or dwarf) people would consider to be the best one for playing as an adept. Obviously, the important stats are strength, body, and willpower. Both metatypes get boosts to strength and body, but dwarves also get a boost to willpower while trolls get base willpower. The question boils down to, which becomes more important: those higher levels of adept powers, or the extra strength/body?

Dwarves get: 11 body, 9 quickness, 12 strength, 9 charisma, 9 intelligence, and 11 willpower.

Trolls get: 17 body, 8 quickness, 15 strength, 6 charisma, 6 intelligence, and 9 willpower.

I'm kind of leaning toward troll, but hey, I could see dwarves being good as well as they don't have any lower than base stats (such as charisma if you want to also do conjuring to get haste). I'm more specifically looking for Dragonfall to play the character, but it could be in general as well.

Either can be fine. Trolls have higher str stats. Dwarves get higher will, so they can get more of the adept passives (like pain resisrance). Use either one you like. Me personally, if you're looking to min/max an unarmed adept, then go with Troll since they have higher damage due to unarmed scaling with str. Adepts can be set to use melee weapons too. They don't HAVE to be unarmed.

I would go with Troll, since hit stat is better.
One other thing is that melee specialist can also use throwing weapons, which are not very effective, but quite fun.

I would go for elf. Low damage? Perhaps. Highest evade chance with dodge and all? check!

I would not worry about those upper maximums. You will NEVER get your strength or body into the dubble digits. Think how much karma it would cost to take your unarmed combat from 11 to 12. That being said, Will would be the big stat for Physad's. And you wont miss the last adept ability. It's not unique, just an upgrade. Buuuut, watching a dwarf do roundhouse kicks is hysterical.

Also, you might consider a gun adept. That does mean that the early adept abilties are kinda useless, but Counterstrike with an assault rifle is as awesome as it sounds. For that, I would go with human. Those extra 3 karma points can get you started down towards Counterstrike.

How the heck does a gun adept work with the existing system? It's not like we get improved reflexes or anything really good like that.

True, you don't But you do get things like Pain Resistance and and Mystic Armor. The key is Counterstrike. It's hard since you have to focus on your gun skills first to survive while impoving your Chi at the same time. So, slow. But once you get Counterstrike....hooo boy. It's not perfect. You have to be in range so pistol adept vs rifles not so great. But active pain resistence, make yourself an obvious target and Counterstrike with Burst Fire or Full Auto with an assult rifle. :) Biggest problem is running out of ammo on the way and making sure you have the AP to pull it off. And like I said, if they move out of range after shooting you, it wonk work. But I have cleared whole rooms in one round using Counterstrike.
