Replay with Rigger.. plus what? any mix advice?
I'm looking to replay and with a Rigger character. But no way I'm looking to just control drones and I want specialize in something else, one weapon or close range stuff or magic or shaman.

I wonder what class mix would fit a powerful Rigger but not using more than one or two drones.

I don't remember any Bioware helping Rigger and my first play was with Decker+Shotgun/Biotech and no magic. So this time no Biotech at all and eventually a bit of magic or full magic.

Well if you control 2 drones you have 0 AP left for your character to do anything else, and really, 2 drones is pretty powerful. The exception being of course if you were to Haste them, and of course later in teh game. If you REALLY want a weapon, I'd suggest Rifle, cause then with haste/later in the game you could just use stay put and use a sniper rifle to kill stuff, while simultaneously sending your drones in. I personal preference while Rigging is to also grab up to 6 decking for the accuracy move

When I play a Rigger if I am not going Decking I normally mix Street Sam with it. They added Sniper Rifles in Dragonfall so that might be a good pick so you can hang back, or pistols are nice since they auto reload at some I want to say a skill of 6, and that helps since you lose 1AP if I remeber right.

Normally mixing magic with Rigging is a no go since the VCR is so expensive essence wise, though they don't have that here so you could go casting or Summoning, for Phys. Ad. (Chi Magic) you probably need the extra AP for it to really work well.

Thanks for suggestions. Yeah the accuracy action is great stuff but I'd like avoid Decker entirely for this play.

Ok rifle for the more handy weapon choice Rigger/Rifle seems good. But for magic what would fit best?

What not cool in Rigger is if you don't put points in drone combats your drone end weak and when you do it this means a lot of AP used and then you are mostly forced to use a second drone and then end with 0 or 1 AP without any haste. Without to mention the AP used won't let you much for a mix.

Mmm I wanted try Rigger at replay because I felt it had nice options but I wonder if I shouldn't try shaman instead afterall never played any even with SRR and few UGC started.

If you do decide to play a Shaman don't make the mistake I did in DMS and try to play a pure Shaman who only uses Shaman spells and spirit summoning. Summons are like drones only worse and Shaman spells are mostly for support. I ended up abandoning that char because it just wasn't any fun for me to play.

In Dragonfall I'm currently playing thu as a Mage with a few Shaman support spells. Basically haste, aim and heal wound on the conjuring side (to replace Dietrich) with Mage attack spells to dish out the damage. I'm finding that pretty powerful and fun to play so far.

Decker really is the best fit with a rigger. You're so low on ap, you mostly don't act or just get 1 action. It doesn't make much sense to invest heavily into a different line like quickness, ranged combat, and rifle just to shoot once every now and then. Just put some points into decking and mark targets.

They really need to make it so the level 5 (i think?) drone skill unlock that lets you controll two drones also unlocks the third weapon slot.

Yeah Decking/Rigger was my main choice in first play of SRR, I didn't redo it with Dragonfall because I wanted a character more involved in the action. And had fun with Decker/Shotgun but yeah now I have not many good choice with a Rigger specialist.

Well, if you keep Blitz around, he could do the marking duties.

Were it my rigger, I'd get pistols 4 to always have ammo, and a big revolver.

Rigger doesn't really mix with anything else, except some basic ranged combat (to unlock 3rd weapon slot and be able to spend your extra 1AP when you get it).

You can't really deck because that'll leave you completely without normal weapons (2 drones + deck take all the weapon slots). You can, however, raise decking solely to pass skill checks, if you are so inclined. Or take only 1 drone and not two, but you'll be hugely penalizing yourself.

You can't multiclass much if you wish to be a *proper* rigger. Drones do a huge amount of action WHEN you get all those juicy +AP upgrades -- however, getting both of them requires quite a big chunk of karma already, you'll need to max or almost-max 3 skills. This, plus taking some basic ranged combat, plus some CHA for etiquettes and skill checks, and perhaps even Conjuring to get Haste -- and you'll be already spending every karma point in Dragonfall without much room for anything else.

Yeah well I think I'll keep rigger for a future play/UGC.

I'll focus more on basic Rigger ie only one drone ever, at max Rigger 4/5 I don't remember Rigger skills check. And only few points on Drone Combat. This won't spend much points and will allow use a drone for Rigger stuff.

And with that I'll go shaman and base mage. Rhaaa I don't know what to take. :-)

nothing says you need a regular weapon. A pure rigger already has no normal weapon since his two weapon slots are taken up by drones.

The only reason rigging + decking dont go togeather is because the game makes you spend 11 karma to get a third weapon slot, and once you have it you may as well put a gun in it since you are already going down ranged combat. If not for that it would be perfect. 4 body, then just ignore everything thats not an int related skill. Int and biotech give you enough conversation checks to mess around with, you cant get everything each playthrough anyway, no reason to say charisma past 1 is mandatory.

Pistols are a very solid weapon choice. If you put enough points into that skill, you can do some really cool special attacks with them.

It's better to be great at one thing than mediocre at 3. It's a party-based game, you have 3 other team members to round out your weaknesses.

If you want to try a spellcaster, I'd ditch the rigger part altogether. Even the +1 cooldown from only a datajack can be sucky. If you just want enough drone control for skill checks, you actually don't have to have a drone and datajack for that AFAIK.
Dorok Mar 9, 2014 @ 5:14pm
There's some specific stuff requiring a drone. But you are right even +1 cooldown isn't cool. I feel the class system is cool only if mixes are cool otherwise it's too limited choices of builds. That's the feeling that are letting me Rigger, pure Rigger (with some basic weapon skills) or Rigger/Decker, that's not much build.

EDIT: I think Rigger for replay after a first play with Decker won't be satisfying. It will lead me to the same tracks, no charisma, INT options, and not much Rigger stuff. There's a good amount of Rigger specific stuff during about first 30% of the game but not much after.

In terms of dialogue options, you'd probably unlock over 80% with a decker/rigger with 6 charisma. I think DF really caters to the decker/rigger in terms of dialogue, maybe even a bit too much. If you want to make an awesome spellcaster to see what it's like, just do it and don't worry about missing a few rigger shortcuts.
