Shadowrun Returns

Shadowrun Returns

Weird glowing emblems on the ground?
What are they? they show up from time to time on maps.

Are they just props or do they do something?

Ley lines. Your mages gets a bonus if they stand on them.

If you speak of the circular symbols, they're leylines : they improve accuracy and damage of mage-type spells. The largest ones also reduce by one the cooldown of your spells, to a minimum of 0 (effectively allowing to spam flamethrower). You can have more details in the help menu in the mage mechanics page.

I so need to give that a try
I've yet to play a mage.... or an adept..

Mage = death to all. AOE is a bit weak but AOE attacks are weak regardless of how you make them (nades suck).

I've played both campaigns (Dead man's switch and Dragonfall) with a mage, and let me tell you, I don't regret it one bit. Having all those nukes is really satisfying.

actually i find flashbangs very usefull consedering you can stun whole groups with them, plus you can cause a summoner spirit to go crazy if you nail them with it.

Flashbangs are awesome. All AP reducing attacks are verging on OP in this game.

Some AOE spells reduce AP significantly.

Shaman/Mage is a good build, and a Datajack for minimal decking doesn't hurt a thing.

Haste + Jazz + AP Attacks...

Shame you need a datajack for even minimal decking - there was a mage with some decking skill in a series of Shadowrun novels and she was able to get by with a trode net. She still needed a better decker along for any serious stuff, of course, since the trode net doesn't let her work as quickly or efficiently as a datajack would. They should've made it an optional thing for decking, having it give a bonus to decking somehow.

Dragonfall even aknowledges trode nets existing in the fiction; the ork guy running the charity wanted donations at one point so they could buy trode nets as part of a work training program.

since a datajack doesnt cost much at all, i think there were more important issues for the devs to focus on.

They do. I could have been clearer on my point; I was exclusively refering to damage output.

Any reduction in essence hurts a lot. -1 magic means you can't fire your flamethrower each turn (normally).
