Is this a RPG or a Hack&Slash?
Hi,
I would like to know if this game is a RPG or a Hack&Slash? And how does it compare to Fallout 1 and 2?
Thanks in advance.

Woo not at all Fallout 1&2 lol. Fallout 1 is a huge classic that aged rather well. Not many RPG can compare to it, for example Skyrim is a crap in comparison to Fallout 1.

It's a RPG but with a very special design approach. Some RPG players won't even consider SRR as a RPG because the exploration element is rather limited. It seems they tried improved this through SRD but it's still more limited than in many RPG.

It's not a H&S at all even if combats are an important part of the game.

I'd say it's a Shadowrun Adventure with elements of RPG and Turn Based Tactical ^_^

dumbed down for mobile platforms, a pretty bad trying to be all things to all audiences kind of thing.

More to RPG. The concept of turn based combat seemed interesting, but you need to pass serious amount of wall of text to get there, turned me off before third combat. I'm more into playing than reading.

By wall of text do you mean the help file or the conversations? If you mean conversation, then expect many "wall of texts". Some of us looking for that sort of thing would probably prefer to call it "good dialog".

Yeah its dialog conversation. A lot of it every time you encounter a main character.

It's more a roleplaying game, then an exploration game, at least in the first campaign, the new campaign is supposedly more open world-ish. While fairly minor (at least in the first campaign which is relatively linear) you do get some nice little perks and additional story for playing characters certain ways, though it wasn't as supported as it could've been. Decking especially was lackluster with few oppertunities to do anything meaningful with it, though there were a few small things here and there that opened alternative paths to get to an objective or added more info.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it enjoyable. Haven't gotten the new campaign yet since I'm currently working through other games atm, but I'll get to it eventually.

Thanks to all for the information.
I did not like Fallout Tactics, but maybe it's because I was expecting too much.
It's too bad there is not demo of this game, but well, it's on sales right now so i'm really tempted to take it.
Just one more question, what is Dead Man's Switch Campaign? Is it a DLC or something?
Okay, lets summarize:

Shadowrun Returns is like an E-Reader and each "Mission" is like a "Novelle".

"Dead Man's Switch" is an 8-12 hour campaign.
"Dragonfall", according to the store page is a 12+ hour campaign.

DMS seems to function as "DLC1", and there is no "Base Game". Meaning that the model of Game+Expansion = New Content in original Game is false. Instead, Dragonfall is "DLC2" and does not seem to touch the first game.

No, you cannot import your DMS character.

Technically you can import your DMS character, but it requires using the editor and it's not the intended design of Dragonfall to do so, as our DMS characters will likely be too powerful from the get-go, and that would make the game somewhat unfun even for those with powertrip fantasies. Also it may potentially break things. ^_^

Dead Man's Switch is the campaign that comes with the game. It was somewhat rushed so it didn't make the best use of the editor's features. Basically; it could've been done better and the devs admit as much. Dragonfall is the expansion and it is what DMS should've been. Unless you were the ones who mistook it as being on the same scale as Fallout or Baldur's Gate, of course. This game is more limited than them (having been made on a much smaller budget and probably in less time) and is more focused on the story rather than the exploration.

I dont' consider this as rpg, because obviously the character have his own identity, but yes on turn tactics.
