Character Builds?
I was wondering if there were any good character builds out there. I can't seem to find any myself.

Leaning towards rigger or mage/shaman, since I hear they get more options throughout the game that you wouldn't otherwise get.

Have you tried it on your own yet? The game's not that picky, and I imagine it's pretty hard to "Dead Man Walking" yourself through misused points. Just use common sense, start with putting points for your offense and when you're confortable start putting them into things you want.

Riggers do really well in this game. Some would even say they are OP. I got to the point that I could run some of the missions without other runners. The nice thing about Riggers is you can easily "Hybrid" into Decker because they use the same primary stat. The only problem is you don't have enough weapon slots to equipt 2 drones, a deck and, another weapon. I delt with this problem by picking up killing hands for my Dwarf Rigger. He's a BAMF! with 2 S class drones. He likes to punch people in the face.

200+ karma points and you no longer fit any specialist category-- you can be proficient at pretty much everything at that point-- magic, decking, rigging, shooting, punching, etc.

You combine rigging with decking, you're called a "Spider." Unfortunately not much drone control is used to manipulate buildings, transportation, or even entire arcologies in UGC or DMS. Maybe Berlin, maybe.

I like to keep my body even with my primary stat, unless I have about as much quickness and dodge as say, INT or CHA or WIL as a decker/rigger/shaman/mage. If I'm quickness main, less body is often needed. You can NOT combine rigging with summoning. But, with the ONE AP a rigger often has left after activating his drones, Flamethrower III puts out the most dmg in one AP or Acid Stream III. Maybe Body 6 Will 6 Int 7 with Alpha Cybereyes eventually to fully utilize your lost half essence point if you don't like using a mod for a zero essence datajack. I have a mod called trodes mesh that is a zero essence loss datajack that sacrifices mark the target. I'd rather have cybereyes and a skillsoft of some kind, now. Mods are great! Mod that Rigger out with uber SSC cyberware, go quickness instead of will and bid sweet farewell to giving a ♥♥♥♥ about essence. Love that move-by-wire. Makes you a 5 AP god of war. 7 body 7 quicknes 7 int. Encephalon or datasoft for ranged combat, Movebywire, Alpha Dermal Armor. (If it fits)

Best options IMO are decking, minions like drones, and cyberware. Magic is exaggerated grenade throwing with a few twists.

Can pure combat characters do well?

I get the feeling that character need to dual 1 combat and one of either decking, rigging or conjuring?

Currently Im focusing on pistol stat & high body. Thinking of adding a few to charisma for the speech options.

Will it be a mistake to put lots of pts on weapons? Im tempted just to still with pistol though.

Sorry for the necro.

I'm nearly done with DMS using a combat oriented rigger. There are a couple of instances where a decker is useful, but they're provided during those critical situations. Fairly early in the game, you can start hiring other runners to fil in missing skillsets.

Great thx. Ill stick with combat skills then and put some into charisma as well.

I've done a few street sams, keep your weapon skills focused and you shouldn't do too poorly. IMO rifles are the best. You'll be a tank, but ♥♥♥♥ in conversation. Conjuring does well with street sam, with haste, shadow, and a totem. I haven't tried being an adept but I imagine a sam/adept is best with all of the passives. Willpower is also vital for mitigating spell crits.

I just finished Dragonfall with an awesome samuri build.
7 str 7 melee weapons ~ 6 ranged 6 pistol (rest in body/charisma)

After 6 in pistol you can reload for free so the low capacity high dmg "Cavalier deputy" is a monster. (It looks like the old west revolver.)
However I found myself tanking with the custom Katana mucht of the time anyway becasue it was so damn fun :)
Samui was fun trying an build now adept now.

Fair play. Thats pretty much how I am looking to build. Though I was originally going to go for a 2nd firearm I think Ill go back to going for melee/pistol warrior. Great to hear about pistol... my eternal hope for building such a character was to get my hands on an OP pistol! :D

Don't forget melee/throwing weapons, you can forget the deputy with your high dmg kunais that break enemies from cover.

Not to mention, throwing for 1 AP for grenades.
