I have the same issue on Linux Mint 20.

I think I did get a mesa update and linux firmware update since it last worked a few days ago. Not sure what else was updated. I'm using an AMD RX570 with mesa from the Kisak Mesa PPA.

The game does work in Proton. So that's a workaround.

I also have the game from GOG and the expansions (Hong Kong and Dragonfall). I have the game installed through Lutris and they also crashes. However, If I use the start.sh script that GOG provides without going through Lutris, the game actually works. I played with the Lutris settings for this game and the game did work after turning off Feral Gamemode.

Same for Debian 10. I tried to install the packages mentioned in the GOG page, to no avail.

I also just noticed Shadowrun Returns did crash after startup.
Opting into the Steam Beta does get the native linux game to run for me, on Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10 both with Nvidia 455

If you are running Steam in Linux, go to the gear icon, and under "Properties" check the Check “Force use of a specific Steam Play compatability tool on the first screen, and select a tool! Photon works for me on Ubuntu 20.04.

Yeah proton works but what happened to Linux native???
jefflpearsonii Dec 19, 2020 @ 7:36pm
Hmmmmm now native Linux works again dont know what happened but I like it

Reinstalled it (non-Proton 'native Linux version') today on Ubuntu 64-bit 20.10 Groovy, Xfce, AMD Ryzen 7, Nvidia 450.80.02. All the latest drivers/updates. Other games run smoothly. Incl. Unity Engine games. Incl. 32-bit games.

Game will not start.

At all.

Checked .config and error logs. Could not find a reason why. Still searching the internet forums ... sad panda.

for me nothing of the listed "workarounds" will work. Tested every Proton version listed in Steam and tested beta too.

Game launches, sometimes I see the Main Menu for half a second, then black screen.
No PPA for Xorg or Mesa.

It is working natively for me on Xubuntu 18.04 now. It wasnt when I first made this post had to use proton. Am using paulo miguel dias mesa PPA. Havnt been back to 20.04 to try there again yet
jefflpearsonii Feb 2, 2021 @ 10:47am
Was using kisak mesa ppa on 20.04
launacorp Feb 5, 2021 @ 10:00am
nice to know. But i don´t wanna use a mesa ppa any more. I used that on LM19 (Ubuntu 18.04 Base) and after some time i couldn´t install mesa updates anymore because then i get a black screen after rebooting. This was at every mesa update since then. Timeshift was my friend and i learned that sometimes mesa ppa could´t be the answer to everything.
