Shadowrun Returns

How is this compared to Sega Genesis version?
Hello I played Shadowrun on the Sega Genesis years and years and years ago ;) Is this the same style? Will this feed my nostalgia and make me feel at home? Or is it a complete reimagining? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
The genesis version will always be the best, until someone makes one that's open world like that. I still have the cartridge, and emu it on my tablet. HBS didn't do a horrible job, and I enjoy all three games, especially with UGC's. hong kong's matrix revamp annoyed the hell outta me tho.

It's nothing like the Genesis version but it's the same world and setting, updated to a modern turn-based RPG formula. All 3 games get dirt cheap (like a couple dollars each) on sale so just wait and get them because they're truly great games if you like TBRPGs.

Well, third one is crap but still, worth getting all of them on sale, for sure, they get so cheap.

Probably, yes...to a point. I've only played the Sega version on an emulator and found it very awkward to control, however the current pc version and the followups imo are smooth. I am currently replaying returns and will move on to the other two in order.

Yeah I got them years ago on a humble bundle because I remembered the old Genesis one I enjoyed so much. Ill have to give it a go. I appreciate everyone's perspective.

Sega Genesis version was better and what I hoped this would be more like. That said, for turn based version in the same world, it is still enjoyable

I had this old cassette tape player and I was getting into metal after finding my mothers old tapes from her youth, and I use to play blasting the Motley Crue Album Girls Girls Girls, good times.

I still remember blowing my way through police headquarters like the freaking terminator blasting Dancing on Glass lol!

My favorite group was Winston Mars (He had that shotgun that was just a early game game changer) and the Decker - Phantom, I really liked him because when I first started getting into the bbs scene pre internet my nic was Phantom (After the song Phantom Lord from Metallica, back before they were hot trash).

Very different, but there is a UGC's in the works that is inspired by the game. Although it'll play differently with it's own unique story, a lot of the cast and locations from the Snes and Genesis versions will pop up here and there.

Currently reworking random mission to make them more interesting in this game engine, as well as put stats and etiquette to use. Hoping for an initial 4-5 hour long game time for the first part.

Oh man fantastic im going to have to look into that. Redmond Barrens lol! The Hollywood Prison Facility was a great place just to run through and take everyone out. Remember how awesome and intricate the weapon upgrade system was in that game, man games still dont do it that good. Not to mention Cyberspace and Decking. I hope Cyberpunk 2077 takes me back.

You should consider buying Dragonfall and/or Hongkong as they are better games.
tukkek Sep 3, 2019 @ 4:06pm
I disagree, I think the first and second are the best. The third is so bugged I couldn't even finish it.

So by no means what beez-one is saying is a consensus in the community. Just his opinion.

its a retelling
tukkek Nov 22, 2019 @ 12:59pm
It's definitely not a retelling.
Zeithri Nov 22, 2019 @ 5:17pm
No. this game has more in common with Super Nintendo Shadowrun than Sega Genesis Shadowrun, right down to the isometric perspective.
tukkek Nov 22, 2019 @ 8:01pm
Yeah, a lot more in common with the Super Nintendo but even then you can't even call it similar. Saying it's a 'retelling" of the Genesis game is just factually untrue.
