car physics good as LFS?
want to know if the car physics are as good as LFS. imo LFS is the most satisfying to drive because of realistic physics.

I'm a bit concerned that pcars driving feel and physics.

I should be able to use a mouse to steer accurately like in LFS.

if it's anywhere near GTFR2, I'd be one happy camper.

definitely better than GTR2. not as drift-centric as LFS, but i dont have much experience w/ that game. i dont think of it as a good comparison.

well you know in LFS they model the car's internals like suspension, tires, the road all interact together to create a realistic simulation of a car. engine and weight, RWD, FWD, AWD, handles very differently and you can feel the characteristics very well.

the sound is not as good as pcars but thats because LFS generates sound in real time based on the model of the engine.

unfortunately LFS is kinda dead because the developer decided that he didn't want to make it any bigger and since they are so small with limited income, updates are far too slow. any attempt at modifcation they've gone to great length to kill it which actually ended up hurting support.

the only remaining ones are mostly non english speaking south americans and eastern europeans still playing demo OR really hardcore simulation enthusiast that demand you piss and poop in your adult diapers for the entirety of the race.

LFS is a great racing simulator, possibly one of the greatest we've seen in terms of realism, but it shot itself in the foot many times with very strange and poor decisions (imho) to keep it closed.

I've heard assessto corsa is a bit like LFS so I might give that a try but from reading comments it seems like pCARS is nothing of that sort.

I love cars, I love tracks, I love weather and sound effects but the bottom line for me is the car physics.
Interesting read, particularily those quotes:

Strange discisions, all around.... Go figure....

BTW, Assetto Corsa is more or less a true LFS successor (I'd say about +92%) with a new engine so to speak.... I would know. Played both of them, bought one. LFS still from my memory feels better IMHO (all be it those like 8/10%).... (If you can and want it, get it you won't be sorry IMO).

Haven't tried pCars yet, but might come back later to share my experience. As I've previously noted; if it's any near GTR(2) I'd be content. Still.... I need those "floty" "bouncy" simulated physics (need nothing BTW, figure of speech) á là lFS á là Assetto Corsa....

On one more related though side note: Recently Bought Dirty Rally. It is comparable to pCars IMHO, in the way it's made. I liked Dirt Rally, it was to me a step up from previous games (Dirt 2 namely, although I liked that game for what it was: a game, not 100% simulation) because of the added realism/difficulty so in my vision I'm thinking pCars is going to be just that: a fun game (hopefully with depth and immersion atmosphere some innovatoin although that all might be too much to ask all at once, the industry.... the industry grants only "degrees")....

Yes first LFS devs have gone out of their way to hinder people modding cars & tracks.

There was once a big community modding LFS cars with real cars. It was very good because it gave a fresh air to the lack of content.

LFS has gets an update like once a year....now they want people to purchase another license...but the game is not at all active anymore...most servers have ping of 150+ from US.

I might give Assetto Corsa a serious consideration. Wonder if it has an active community and multiplayer servers.

Overtime, games have become nerfed to make it easier for women and children to play and racing games were no exception. I remember playing shift 2 and thinking who the ♥♥♥♥ plays with all these assists on ? It's like you don't even need to make an effort to turn, ♥♥♥♥ just hold down the button and let the car drive on a rail.

speaking of rally games the last good one I played was colin mcrae 2005. that was an insanely hard to master, the multiplayers were extremely challenging because in Europe apparently rally cross is wildly popular and people are just extremely skilled at it...

I had a lot of hopes for pCars but looks like it is a disappointment on the simulation level.....will just get asseto corsa if it goes on sale in summer.

It's not dissapointing at all. Comming from iRacing and Assetto Corssa, pCars is actualy much more accurate in the force feedback department. pCars is actualy doing true vector based feedback so you wont feel rumble strips like you do in most other game. pCars takes some getting use to but once you understand what the force feedback is telling you it's miles ahead of any other game.

They overide dampaning settings on the wheel to indicate weighted feedback. When you first start it will feel like your wheel snaps to center like when your wheels dampaning is too high but once you get moving it feels correct after a few laps, this is mainly due to cold tires and how they give you feedback on when one side of the car becomes unweighted. You feel much more connected to the road than any other sim.

pCars is the X-Plane of car sims whereas sims like iRacing and Assetto Corssa would be more comparable to Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Empty Box said the same thing.

Yes you can, it does have a preset for mouse and keyboard steering :)

if you want to feel curbs etc it is also entirely possible to do it without losing feeling in the feel, this is what the z-axis is for in car setup...i have a g27 it chatters like crazy now if i go over some sharp curbing & any bumps in the surface can now be felt thru the wheel. just last night i was complaining saying it felt like i was driving on glass or marble.

just keep in mind default settings dont have to be your preference & there are lots of options to mess around with.
Hans Gruber May 7, 2015 @ 4:36pm
Project Cars has the LED's on by default on the G27. People forget the little things in games.
