Use manual clutch with a XBOX 360 Controller
Question: Does it work?

Answer: Yes.

How?
- Do not use the XBOX 360 Controller preset. Go through the presets and choose one, where you can switch the 'Automatic Clutch: Yes' to 'No' (I used the Preset for the "Fanatec CSW V2 - Separate Pedals")

I tried out to use the Left Trigger for the clutch instead for braking in Raceroom Racing and it worked very well.

Here is the main setup:

Left Trigger: Clutch
Right Trigger: Throttle
Left Bumper: Gear Down
Right Bumper: Gear Up
Right Analog Stick Down: Brake

... I use the Left Analog Stick Down for looking down.

This configuration takes a bit time to get used to, but it is quite ergonomic, once you practiced it a little. You might not win races right away.

Why?

Because it adds another layer of difficulty (=pleasure) to the game. Your car will stall if you make mistakes, especially when down-shifting (I love it!!). You don't need to buy a G27 just yet, if you wasted all your money on the Steam Summer Sale.

Yes, it is heresy to drive in Project Cars with anything else but the most expensive Driving Wheels & Pedals - and your hydraulic racing chair, what? You DON'T have one? Tststs...

My own Driving Wheel has pedals - but only two. And I have no other analog input for the clutch. So, I had to use my imagination. I am experimenting also with my HOTAS, two different DInput/XInput analog controllers.

I also use manual clutch settings on a Xbox One controller. I mapped throttle and brakes to the right/left triggers, gear up and down to the right/left bumpers, steering to the left sitck and clutch to the right stick, upwards.

It's really neat to drive with, adds lots of realism and only makes me more eager to get a proper wheeled setup. It takes some mental effort at first, but it becomes second nature with time. I can't drive without it anymore, it makes auto cars seem too.... auto.

It made me really appreciate vintage racing.
