Crew Chief - an alternative race engineer for PC users

Hi folks,

Anyone want a different race engineer? I ported my Race Room Crew Chief to Project Cars. The app can be downloaded here:

I don't mind on this specific thread since it's a useful tool for users but that doesn't mean steam mods might take it the wrong way.

i followed your instructions but wehen i boot crew chief it is unable to recognize speech platform runtime. wanting to run it in us voice commands. not sure what to do this looks great tho hope i can get it working

For anyone else struggling, install SpeechPlatformRuntime.msi first. Then install MSSpeech_SR_en-GB_TELE.msi fro GB English.

If you prefer to use the speech recognition for US English, install MSSpeech_SR_en-US_TELE.msi instead, but then you *must* change the speech_recognition_location property in Crew Chief's Properties page from en-GB to en-US.

Lots of updates to the app recently, it now includes sector times, opponent lap times, track / ambient temperature info, and a ton of other stuff, some of which is demoed in the newer video in the first post

I glanced at this thread yesterday for the first time and watched the vid linked. I thought this was just a spotter app as I did not watch the entire clip. I returned today thinking I might go and read the official forum thread and....oh my, it is much much more than I had imagined. This is a complete immersion tool!

I have yet to try it out but you may well have just inspired me to actually have a race. I wonder how well it will react to my Kimi Räikkönen impersonations?

Tell the app to shut up or tell it "I know what I'm doing", it'll respond appropriately. After all, what's the point of voice recognition if you can't pretend to be Kimi? :)

Question: Can recording mine voice and replace the files?

yes, you can replace the voice files if you want. The driver name files need to keep the same file names, but the other voice files for the various events can have any file name as long as they're in the correct folders (the files must be .wav files). The app uses the folder names to link sound files to race events, and each time an event triggers, it picks a random sound file from any of the files it finds in that event's folder.

If the sound file name starts with "sweary_" the app will only pick that one if "use_sweary_messages" is enabled. This is so I can use the app while my son watches without having to explain what "f*cking useless" or "get your sh!t together" mean :)
