copy C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\steam\userdata\#########\234630 to backup just Project Cars.
After reinstalling windows and steam you could have tried "verify game cache" BEFORE trying to launch game in order to try and get the saved game info in steam cloud to sync to your empty new steam install userdata folder.
Bit of a pain but makes sense. I normally just add the original steam directory and jump back into gaming.
Luckily on the second time I didn't bother with career again. Will keep this in mind, thanks.
My Project Cars Profile, media and Ghost lap times are saved here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\32233164\234630\local\project cars
It is important to back up this location before formatting, as in the media folder, will contain, replays you have saved, from Multiplayer online race replays to single player race replays.
Crash dumps, ffb, screenshot, and video settings are stored here.
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Project CARS
Thanks, again I have Windows installed on a seperate partition (C:/) so when formatting that partition the games (D:/) and documents (E:/) partitons are not effected.
@Balderick has explained after a new installation of Windows I need to verify the games cache even though Steam hasn't changed (all games still installed, nothing removed etc). This should help me with a few games I have lost saves on over time. But thanks again.
pCars is one of the few; it's save game is in:
...\Steam\userdata\xxxxxxxx\234630\local\project cars\profiles
Much more common is %userprofile%\Documents\
or %userprofile%\Documents\my games
I have like 400 games in my library and the vast majority of them keep their saves in the user's Documents path.
PS
Anyway, anybody can tell me what for is this whole trash in documents?
found it! thank you so much!
