Your opinion on the car sounds
Hey guys! as the title says i would like to hear your opinion on the car sounds as i am very disappointed over the Ford Mustang GT which is my favorite car, i also think some other cars need improvement on the sounds and engine sound, aswell as i think some of them dosen't even sound like the same car in real life!

I'm rather happy with the car sounds (although sometimes it’s a bit overdone/thick). But I'm really missing wind noise. That's a key factor in having a sense for speed. I also think that the tunnel noise is way too loud with for example the Ariel Atom V8 500 in helmet view. Don’t know if this with more cars or other views.

The car sounds will never sound like you hear on a YouTube video, if that's what you are expecting. The sound are recorded directly from the engine and you have an uncompromised version of the sound. It's a very clean engine sound which is not what most people are used to... Some people think it's too digital because of how clean the sound is, but they are sounds recorded from real engines.

There are some things missing today which I hope they can enhance later, like more transmission sounds/whine.

Yeah the sounds are very similar to what they were in shift 2 (I'm bracing for the attacks).

They aren't horrible, but they are nowhere near real. To me they are doable and that's it

Better than any other game racing I've played

Like mentioned above, if all you want is an accurate recording of the engine sound, it's great!

Personally, I find the "mix" to be off and miss certain aspects of in car sounds like transmission whine.

I find the games vehicle sounds acceptable, and the fact is that all super-chargers make a little noise (whine), most turbos make noise (blow-off valve), and a lot of cars in this game have non helical cut gears in their transmissions( cycling whine), hence the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ noise. It think it is fairly realistically done, considering the fact it is a game.

Edit: The lower viscosity lubricants used in performance vehicles also contributes to various noises as well. Differential noise, etc.

IMO the forza series has the most realistic sounds. The sounds in this game are nowhere near real as I own a boss 302 (same engine as the R and S race models) and I have longtubes with many mid pipes OR/H/X/prochamber so I know first hand that the game falls short on sounds. If you want sounds that are realistic play forza.

This pretty much sums it up, fact you can't isolate your own engine from others is a little stupid
The aural treatment of this game seems vague if anything, you're not supposed to hear engines like you do, helmet and pit crew communication obscures this so why the sounds we get in game is a curiousity
Maybe an oversight, but certainly not sim orientated

Absolutely false.. The engine sounds are slightly muted, but it actually allows other things to be highlighted. At the amateur level, I've known many race drivers not use ear protection because it does allow them to hear other noises their car makes which is normally drown out by the engine. Those scare them so they'd rather not hear them and just wait for the car to break. ;)

Have you actually been in a real race car with helmet, balaclava and either ear protection and/or communication device? I have an you are not correct with your assumption above.. I'm not asking to poke at you, I'm asking based on your comment to see if you are really guessing or speaking from experience..

If you are wondering why ear protection would allow some noises to come through but not all of the engine noises, it has to do with the frequencies.
Yes, the veritable expert once again, I know what a motor bike sounds like when I wear a helmet, please don't try and change the fact taht what I posted what actually correct, I do have aback ground with sound design so thanks anyways

:D

Good quality ear protection maintains a very neutral response. Cheap stuff just bungs your ears up with foam.
