Checked it out but i've not find the answer to the question what upd does? not on page 49 anyway? So i do'nt understand why you respond with a link that helps us no further instead of shortly explaining what gtidrive75 and Kearsey ask?
Other apps might be running on a phone or whatever (e.g. dashboard apps). These apps need to get their data over the network. Before this update, such apps would have to have a small 'server' component which ran on the game PC, reading the shared memory data and transferring it to the client app on the phone via the network.
Now the game sends data to the network directly without the need for a intermediary server app. So these phone apps can be modified to use this and remove the server component entirely.
The main reason for it tho is to enable 3rd party apps on the consoles. The PC version of this functionality is most useful for us app developers who can now port their goodies so they work with the console version of PCars
