you don't. steam auto-updates it
you should now see the version number in the lower right-hand corner of the menu screens, as well as have a Mercedes 300SL in you available cars
if you have that, you've got 4.0 ... if not, tell steam to verify the game cache

Pirates... Even the game disk is just a steam key... Steam won't even run it without updating to the latest version.

He does have the game as you can see next to his name. Some people are just not used to the way steam does patches so no need for that comment really.
