wait for AC Competezione.
Who's the fanboy? This is a topic about a specific car and about in Project cars, answer the question that's all.
1. The only valid alternative for this car is Raceroom.
2. Unfortunately the mod for rfactor2 will be, or maybe is already, outdated as the sim evolves and the mods get outdated (even the paid ones) ; this is how rfactor 2 is period.
3. AC Competizione won't support mods, stated by Kunos, period.
Do not give wrong information to people just to get support for your favorite sims (and how the hell are you sure you will like Competizione???).
4. Only Pcars 2 has a great GTO grid (with the F40...), not any other sim on the market. If someone is interested in this category, this sim has the good package.
To answer the topic, I've just made a few laps with the Audi 90 in Pcars1, it's more enjoyable than I remember (I had another wheel when I used to race on Pcars1). So this version is enjoyable too, but without other GTO cars.
All of this sim have different flavours and have their own feeling, and their own capabilities, one may suit you more than others. I have them all, race on all, each for what it does better than the others (I was still playing some F1 Challenge mods until a recent Windows update which made them unable to be launched). All are sims, each does bad things and good ones. Saying one is arcade and another a sim is dishonest.
rFactor2's tire simulation is theorically great but in practice a pain in the ass for modders. And at the end of the day it is really not the most important feature. Nobody needed that in GTL, GTR2, even in the good old F1 Challenge (which by the way was simulating all the features that only Pcars2 can provide nowadays). And they were great simulators (GTR2 still is better than almost all the modern simulators in terms of content, thanks to the mod, and features ; and the FFB is still enjoyable).
Stability, interesting, relevant and original content, dynamic weather, good AI, fast loading times, optimization, good presentation, usable UI, moddability ... all of these are features that not any modern sim is able to provide. GTR2 had all of that, except the dynamic weather which required an external exe file (unfortunately not working on Windows 10) and before, the first GTR and before F1 Challenge had it all including the dynamic weather.
Pcars 2 is close to have all these features but is not moddable and with an AI inferior to the other sims. Online races are 70% of the time with cheaters and stupid racers.
rFactor2 is POTENTIALLY the best sim but in a neverending slow developpment state, which makes all the mods obsolete. They should put a team to help the modders of all the Steamworkshop content to update regularly their mods ; these modders are the one who make this sim alive. They don't, Studio397 prefers to slowly update the game and sell content already available in other sims and in mods. AI is good but it seems, from recent youtubers videos, that some issues are appearing. If one of the best things of rFactor2 is now broken, it's an absolute mess. To be able to get the best from that sim, it is needed to stop any development in terms of physics and features and stabilize the base game ; the only future developments should be about the presentation and the optimization. After that, modders will know they can do something useful. Currently all their work can become obsolete in 2 months.
How can someone say that the game is a great sim although he may uses outdated content in terms of physics and features (90% of the available content if we include the modded tracks)?
Assetto Corsa is the best moddable sim but lacks many crucial racing features. Kunos did exactly what Studio397 should do, they stopped the development at one point, although the sim lacked many crucial things, and the modders was at last able to deliver stable content. This is how it became the most modded sim. And they move on another game with a new engine and with more features. The same move that was done between Pcars1 and Pcars2 : bad features in the first one but many good ones, let's do soemthing better now, move on and improve. Now in AC there are many awesome mods available and many tracks (it almost competes with GTR2 mods & tracks collection). AI was awful at the beginning but it has been significantly improved and I really enjoy racing it now. Online races are not really better than PCars 2, I haven't experienced any cheating though. You can't stall, yes, is it an arcade game?
Raceroom has the most original content (but Pcars2 and Assetto with mods are now strong competitors) but as AC it lacks many racing features, although it has many that the others don't (custom race rules like rolling start, custom championship...). The sound design is amazing, the clutch and H shifter are rightly simulated (the only one with rFactor 2 and... GTR2, GTL and F1 Challenge lol). The AI is great, and the public online races are still the best ones I've experienced until now.
Which is an arcade game? Which is a sim racing game? Any racing sim fan should be aware of all these aspects and enjoy all these sims instead of fanboyish everything claiming his fav sim is sim and the others are arcade. The more you support all of them, the better it is for the sim racing genre in general.
