Upgraded my wheel, did i waste my money?
So I've had this Driving Force GT wheel ever since I was a little kid (Years Back) and I've decided to get an upgrade to a G29 Wheel for 398$ AUD. But I'm starting to slightly regret it. So heres the thing.

My DFGT is still like brand new and works like a charm for games like Project Cars, Asseto Corsa, Dirt Rally etc etc.

The reason I bought the G29 wheel was because of the lack of a clutch on my old DFGT and I wanted a more authentic driving experience.

Also another reason why I bought this wheel was because my PS4 would not work with my DFGT and I was thinking of buying PROJECT CARS 2 later on for my PS4.

So was my upgrade from a DFGT to a G29 a good choice or did I waste my money?

nah mate no way, you need to use the logitech profiler mate and then start pcars.
I got the G27 and its now my second and they have always been a robust cheap option for us aussies mate.

If you're planning on using it on the PS4 in the future, then it's not a waste. The G29 has way better FFB and the clutch pedal. It can be a little finicky working with PCars but you can get it to work. I have a solution in the comments of my video here :

I also just made a new video today using my G29 :

How much is a T300 in the land down under?

I kinda feel like going from a DFGT to a G29 isn't much of an upgrade. Yeah, better pedals. Yeah, helical gears. That's really about it.

T300 much nicer FFB. G29 should feel better than dfgt though so not a waste but if your itching for better soon it's not the most efficient.

It's belt v gears. Logitech is clunky. Thrustmaster smoother, faster, better FFB and u save more slides with it.
If you want more feedback, reddit simracing is a good place!

You still need to tweak FFB settings otherwise you'll just get a massive increase of force.

As the owner of a DFGT for almost a decade I'm in the same boat. I decided to just mod the brake pedal, make my own H-Shifter, and soon going to add a clutch pedal. For PS4 support I'm going to make a GIMX adapter to get the PS4 to see my DFGT as a G29. I just didn't see the point in spending so much money to upgrade when the G29 from my experience isn't really any better for FFB after you set up both wheels. The G29 is quieter though so if that matters to you it might be worth the upgrade. I haven't even considered a Thrustmaster as they don't seem to have the reliability track record that logitech wheels have. Fanatec is way out of my price range.

My G27 fell apart in my hands... cogs came apart in the mechanism.

My t300 was rock solid as is my csw now.

That may be the case but if you look at the wider sim racing community, Logitech wheels do tend to "live forever". The only common weak point in the G27 was the encoder wheel and maybe pedal pots, though I don't really see many people complain about them.

I got a G27 nearly 4 years ago now, mainly because I didn't want to wait for the delivery of a Thrustmaster. Prior to that I had a Logitech Driving Formula Force which still works to this day. Logitech wheels are renowned for their longevity and considering until recently they probably held the majority share of wheel owners (maybe still do), they deserve that reputation.

Edit: Oh, the Driving Formula Force is around 20 years old.

i made the switch from g920 to the t300 alcantara edition, insane difference. My g920 a year ago cost me $450 with the shifter plus taxes. My t300 alcantara edition with the shifter cost me $450 because of a newegg sale. Its such a smoother wheel and just a better overall experience (also bigger diameter of the wheel).

We will never know the real numbers... but we do know the facts.. Logitech so far is a significant step down FFB wise.

Still a decent enough wheel but if you ever try a t300 or even a t150 (let along better) you will never want to touch your logitech again...

Fanatec CSW v2.5 v T300 is MUCh better build quality and markedly stronger FFB but the actual FFB quality is not a major jump where as the G25-29etc.. v t300 is night and day.

I wouldn't dispute that. Your post didn't mention FFB at all, it was like you wanted to dismiss Logitech based on "build quality" because yours broke when the evidence within the community suggests you were unlucky and logitech wheels are the most robust, aside from direct drive wheels.

I also posted this a few posts up:

I'm aware of your earlier comment, however, my response to you is about your response to someone saying Logitech have a reputation for their products working for decades while Thrustmaster have a reputation for not lasting so long. The conversation had moved away from FFB.

I've also just realised I named my old wheel incorrectly, it was a Formula Force.
