What kind of table would work best to mount a wheel on? *Update*
Not specific question to this game but I am not sure where else I could ask this. I have been wanting to get a wheel to play this game for a while now, and with the game going on sale for humble bundle and tax refund coming soon I thought this would be the perfect time to try it.

I am looking at either Logitech Driving Force G920 Racing Wheel, Thrustmaster TMX Force Feedback, or HORI Racing Wheel Apex, depending on how much money I have to spare and any recommendations you folks might have. Never tried playing a racing game with a wheel so it will be an entirely new experience, I would only be willing to get the more expensive wheels if it is very, very highly recommended (I have seen some forums say that the wheel is basically not worth getting without force feed back, is this true? it does sound pretty cool).

Anyway, as someone who has never tried it before... What kind of table should I get to mount it on? I wouldnt want to spend more than say 50 dollars on it. Any suggestions for that?

Edit: Hey guys, after doing some more research I have decided to get the T300 gt edition, a wheel stand, and a shifter later on if I decide I like the setup. The wheel stand pro is well reviewed and it looks nice and all but.... I cant help but think the shifter position on that stand would be rather awkward.

Looking at the reviews for the stand there were a few other complaints about that very issue, and one person suggested getting a gt omega stand instead. Also saw a few other people suggest that stand, and it looks nice too... Problem is amazon still says it is out of stock for the t300 version, would it be worth waiting to get that one? Do they still make them even? Or is there another place I can buy one?

If you have nothing helpful to say.... why post at all?

He wan't being a smarty-pants. You will need a desk or wheel stand, something sturdy. One of those folding dinner trays for the sofa will not cut it. You can make a stand with 2x4 or even pvc pipe. Just Google "homemade wheel stands" all kinds of fun things to build.

I mount on this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Basic-Student-Desk/17479995

It's really a borderline option because the whole desk flexes a bit when I steer quickly. Anything less flimsy should be fine.

That would probably work, but I was kinda hoping for something I could take apart or fold up when I was not using it.

Any advice on which wheel to get? Would the more expensive ones with force feedback be worth the extra money or should I just get the cheaper 100$ one?

Depends on how much you want to spend. Look at some wheel stands. GT Omega, Next Level Racing and Wheel stand pro. I have the wheel stand pro currently. My Thrustmaster T500RS would vibrate so much stuff on desk would fall off. The stands are pricey or take the build your own approach. As I said, good luck.

Would something like this work? https://www.amazon.com/Furinno-14035EX-Simplistic-Study-Espresso/dp/B00NIYX9LC/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1486516363&sr=1-5&keywords=table
I think that would be about the right sizes, does it look sturdy enough?

It doesn't seem to have enough shear strength. That means if you were to push the table surface left or right, the side walls would bend quite a bit. Imagine trying to steer while holding the wheel's 12 o'clock position.

You might want to add cross bracing on the back of this table.

A wheel stand would be nearly 200 dollars for itself... and it seems I cant just get a table either, I might just scrap the entire idea then.

Thank you for the advice anyway :steamsad:

Look for the gt omega wheel stand on amazon. Costs £100 in the UK with a shift mount included. Folds up nicely and is decently sturdy.

If you need a link I can post one later

This is what I use.

The problem with this table is it wobbles a lot unless you add several L brakets to brace it. It is large enough to hold monitor, speakers, amplifier. I have a keyboard tray mounted on the underside.

It is big and heavy, been using mine for several years.

I would try the pvc build but I dont have a local hardware store, not sure how much that would cost online.

That one looks like it would actually work well enough, would it be sturdy enough without the L brackets? It would be great if I could take it apart easily, I really dont want something large taking up the already limited space in my room.

I suppose I could get one of the cheaper wheels and a stand... Does anyone have experience with both g920 and thrustmaster TMX? Is it worth the extra 100$ for g920 or is the tmx as good?
