If I were to buy the expansion bundle here on Steam, could I play the expansion on my console?
I own the game on Xbox (not Gamepass but actually own) where I prefer to play. However, I would like to own it here on Steam as well. I know that purchased cosmetics and such are usable cross platform due to the same battle tag so I'm wondering if the expansion is the same.

I know that a lot of people will want to believe that it won't allow cross purchase that way for the expansion but I also know that before D4 launched, a lot of people were also under the belief that console play would require XBL ot PS+ and that turned out to be untrue.

Has the devs confirmed this one way or the other?

no if you buy the game on steam you'll have to play the steam version

if you want the game on steam while maintaining the console experience you'll need to buy a steam deck

If you buy the base game + expansion on Steam, if your Steam account is linked to the same Bnet account as your Xbox, then you will be able to play the full game plus expansion on both Steam and Xbox.

The thing is, you need to own the base game on both plattforms, if they are linked to the same Bnet acc, then buying the expansion on either should give you full access on both afaik.

Wrong, if your Steam version is linked to a Bnet account that already has another (Xbox or Bnet) version linked, then you will have access to your account on both plattforms, and can play from whereever you want, with one account.

Also, while it can be a bit tricky, you can very well play the Bnet version on the Steamdeck. Only a Xbox version will not suffice, but anyway, the comparison to a console-like experience would be rather made with steam big picture/streaming to TV/using controller.

Except, we can all see you didn't buy the game on steam.
I would think so, armor transmog from expansion was available to me on PS5 after I bought it on Steam.

No.

I have the base game ultimate edition from blizzard, and standard base game + ultimate expansion on steam, but it's all shared.

You only need to buy the standard edition to play it on a specific platform. Everything else is shared, because it's the same save file on the blizzard servers.

Even ubisoft and ea games don't require you to buy duplicate dlcs, for it to be shared between your games on different platforms.

The exception would be if the game doesn't use account linking with other platforms, then you have to buy duplicates for different platforms.

So lel at people complaining about different launchers or having to have different accounts on other platforms, but also complain why they have to buy the game on different platforms, well at least the dlc is shared, otherwise you wouldn't have even that.
