How do I use Gurgling head and Tingling hand?

I have a gurgling head and Tingling hand that supposedly can summon monsters at tree. However, I can't seem to use it. When I go to Whispering tree dungeon, I can get a monster that attacks me. Is this all that happens? How are these items used? Are they useful>

There are 4 items required (you're missing the heart and femur) to summon Varshan at a pedestal at the end of that dungeon

Collect grim favors rewards to get drops for Van & Grig.
If you just want good uniques then it will be easier, if you want an Uber unique then get ready to grind a lot.
