Do I need the Vessel of Hatred expansion?

I'm planning to buy Diablo 4 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Since the reviews for its first expansion aren't great, do you think just getting the base game is a good idea?

More than likely when there's a new expansion they will include VoH free with base game, there's no way they will splinter the content up in multiple ways like Destiny did. My other thought is they might include it free for gamepass ult players when the new DLC drops. These are all assumptions. If you want to play it now then buy it while its on sale, its def not worth the full price tag. Take that from someone who mistakenly bought the $100 edition at launch of the base game. If you don't buy the expansion you'll miss out on the confusing rune system, confusing merc system, new areas that are harder for your mount to auto-navigate through, along with temporary roadblocks that aren't explained until you get to a certain point in the story.
TLDR: if you're planning to buy the game, just get the bundle.

I thought the same as you. Then i decided i would buy the expansion when it was on sale... I am glad that i did..Get it on sale since most cried about the original price..They felt it was not worth the price.

hey i buyed diablo standard version at jabuary 10 2025 , i have posibility to ubgrade ultimate version?

I'm not sure about upgrading if you can or not here, but I would hold off til you see what changes they are making to the battle pass and skins. A quick glance of the official forums lead to a complaint thread regarding the pass and skins.. I didn't read closely, I'm no pass or skin buyer, but you might be.

That depends. If you only want to play the game once for the story skip the expansion.
If you want to play seasons and several characters I'd say the expansion is pretty much mandatory.

The Ultimate version for the base game is no longer available for purchase. (you aren't missing much, honestly).
The ultimate for the addon is available and includes some cosmetics and premium store currency. You can upgrade to it in the game's store in one of the tabs on top.

Depends really. If you want to just play the base game and its story then that is fine. You want to do seasons you are gonna need the Expansion. Also since this is a live service game and the story is not "finished" you will need every single Expansion they put out order to complete whatever story they eventually come up with from begining to end.

idk maby i build wrong or rl dont know but some ppl coming and kill boss in 2 skil or 1 i need 5-10 min to kill in torment4 also can t do pit over lvl 70 cuz on lvl 70 alredy need 5-6 min to kill end boss so i thinked to can use runes and helpers or how to call that mercary sistem ppl

Have fun! I liked the base game story, took a long hiatus but came back last night. I have it on Battle Net though... Waiting for the xpac to go on sale there!

You need to use those mercs. Press C. Look up to top right hand tab. Go to the Den. Start leveling those mercs. They eventually will give you loot boxes you can trade for mats or gear. Learn those runes. They are a significant power boost.

Nope, the seasonal storyline/powers/equipment will be available to everyone.
Stuff locked behind expansion is Spiritborn class, Mercenaries, Runes, and generally the new region and everything within like Undercity.

I think you have to go way back to the very beginning. Someone else was posting the same issue. I'm not actually sure what prevents you from the dlc stuff. Most of us get to ski all that once complete.

Can you see the head hunt areas and complete the quests to turn into the tree? Also there's an xp event coming up.
