First. you have to purchase the game on Steam for anyone to take you even remotely serious.
Essentially, the old zones are fun, but Helltide changes every season, so it´s no surprise they shift it towards DLC now. After all, it´s out for 6+ months
It was recently on sale for pretty cheap as well, maybe it still is on battlenet. I just got the dlc+base game for 41$ on sale
It's intentional. They could have perfectly made the raids only available in the base game, and if it's available in the DLC area, it would also be available in another area of the base game, like other events.
I'm not going to buy the DLC. I don't like the new character, the Spanish dubbing they're doing, or their "give me your money for this garbage" practices: runes, mercenaries, and now the seasons... all so you buy the DLC.
Well, if this continues, I won't have a problem with the fact that when the next game of this style officially comes out, I'll switch forever.
Always the same:

Even in Diablo 2, which came out almost 25 years ago, runes and some of the mercenaries were expansion/DLC features. This isn't anything new and I don't see it as troublesome that seasons involve bosses and areas from the new area.
Yes, they want you to buy the expansion, just like every other studio that releases an expansion wants you to buy their DLC, too.
In Diablo 2, if you don't have the expansion, you play in games without an expansion and all its content is accessible. If you have the expansion, you play in games with the expansion and all its content is accessible.
The same thing happens in Diablo 3. Whether you have the expansion or not allows you to join one server or another where all the content will always be accessible.
But in Diablo 4, that doesn't happen anymore. Not because I play with other players who use runes, mercenaries, etc., and I can't. Now, they make seasonal events inaccessible.
This has NEVER happened in any previous game, and that's why it's not comparable. If you can't see the differences, you can't have a coherent conversation.
Now I propose this to Blizzard since I see that some people are delighted with their bad practices:
- Create an area on the map that is only accessible during the season
- Change colors, reposition trees, and little else each season
- Only run seasonal events in that area of the map
- Make players pay real money to enter that area of the map each season
- Create a new season in 3 months and repeat the cycle, close the map, change four things, and then make them pay again...
Diablo 2 introduced seasons (ladders) in 2003. If you wanted to be competitive, you needed to have the expansion. That was over twenty years ago. It's not a new thing.
I don't entirely understand the upset here. The game has been out for two years and the expansion a little over half a year ago. It goes on sale frequently and most recently cost around 27 euros. If you are deep enough into the game to care about seasons, why not just get the expansion? I understand that money can be tight, but D4 is one of those games that you can play for numerous hours, so the euro/hour ratio is better than in most games (even if you bought the game and expansion at the full price).
Simplified, your complaint is that you can't play on an even level field with other players if you don't have the expansion. That is accurate, you'll be at a disadvantage and you will be excluded from DLC-related content. My response to this stands, however: It was the same in D2 in 2003 already.
I disagree with your suggestion that this should be different. The full game includes the expansion and I appreciate that they include DLC content in the seasonal event.
If I play Diablo 2 without an expansion, ALL of the Diablo 2 content (seasonal or not) without an expansion is accessible to me, ALL of it.
Now, if I play Diablo 4 without an expansion, the seasonal content (which is officially for players with and without DLC) may not be accessible because it's in a paid area.
Do you understand now? It's not about being more competitive; it's about them locking the season behind a DLC.
What's more, for about an hour now, I've been noticing that seasonal raids are being activated in both areas if it's in the paid area, but not on all servers. They may be running a server-side update.
So maybe they're correcting it.
However, I'll give you a breakdown:
- Diablo 2 without expansion: I can play everything the season gives me without an expansion.
- Diablo 2 with an expansion: I can play everything the season gives me, with or without an expansion.
- Diablo 4 without DLC: I can't play everything the season gives me without DLC.
- Diablo 4 with DLC: I can play everything the season gives me, with or without DLC.
As per usual: If you don't buy the addon don't be pissed if you miss out on addon content.
Meanwhile I am pissed off about what you are actually getting. If I was in charge you'd get nothing but season 1-4 repeats, with a huge emphasis on the odd numbered seasons.
Look, what would GamePass users play? What kind of pull would Diablo 4 have on GamePass? What image would they present to all the players who haven't bought the game yet, and they're being told they're forced to buy all the DLC released or they won't be able to play anymore?
You must only have enough brain cells to breathe, and I'm 99% sure you're a textbook communist. These ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ideas can only come from people like that.
And while this is easily fixable for me i can switch it to english but i really understand that some people find it annoying and if this is the path they are going to choose for every season, then sadly ill have to abandon the game because:
1: Blizzard has always been known for dubbing their game in all languages and its variants.
2: Blizzard has enough cash to hire 1 or 2 voice actors, i can accept ai voices for indie games not a game with this price tag and renown.
3: Blizzard is destroying diablo by adding AI voices, and maybe, just maybe, new artwork generated by AI.
And if they are going to continue the same model for every season from now on, this will be a big let down.
I don't know man, im a huge diablo fan but... Jesus, i can't say i don't agree with all the discontent about it now.
