Battle.net launcher needed to play?

Can someone pls confirm if the Battle.net launcher is needed to play the game via Steam?

Really? The store page only says that you need a Bnet account but nothing about the launcher, shouldn't it have the launcher mentioned separately, like EA has for its games?

It works just like overwatch 2 no b.net launcher required just a b.net account you link to your steam account.

No. Bnet account is required for crossplay and cross-progression, but it doesn’t use the launcher on Steam. Overwatch was the same deal.

sorry, but this is very confusing
if i just want to "play" the game do i need anything Blizzard related, aka the launcher or an account?
similiarly to how Ubisoft games work, which is why i do not buy these games on PC in any way shape or form.
but frankly this is the first time i don't seem to quite understand how the account/launcher thing actualy plays into the steam version.

You NEED a battle net account linked to your steam account, you don't need the launcher.

Launch not needed. But account is needed, how else are you gonna have crosssave functionality between all platforms.

Don't you just have to enter a battlenet email address? e.g. Destiny, Overwatch 2...
here you don't install a battlenet client. you only have to enter a battlenet email, which is a cool solution.
