I was just told it was the Bethesda launcher. Microsoft bought them then all the games went to steam after.
Now how long was it after the acquisition that they shut down Bethesda? There is still a chance I dont have to rebuy the game on steam. I can wait.
It was about a year after the acquisition.
I don't think bnet will be shut down anytime soon. WOW is unlikely to come to steam so as long as WOW remains on bnet, bnet will continue to exist. Maybe another 10 or 20 years time but it will likely be diablo 7 by then and you will have forgotten about 4.
Yeah I am hoping for battle net launcher to shut down so I don't have to rebuy the game on Steam again. In the meantime, I will just play on B.net launcher. I hate B.net launcher.
They are under no obligation to create a replacement launcher or to give you Steam keys instead.
FYI that is also just a license. Just because it doesn't have DRM doesn't mean it's not a license. Any type of software has always been just a license. Remember those old installers you used to have with games on CD? Remember the license agreement you needed to accept? If you buy a physical version then you own the disc but you are still under a license usage. Buying games on GoG you also just buy the license to use them.
You seem to be mixing this up with DRM. Most games on Steam have DRM, same as on BNET etc. especially always online games like Diablo 4 while on GoG there is no DRM (at least for most games I believe). But it's still only a license that you bought.
Apparently history hasn't taught anything to these kids.
Steam has plans how to handle your games if the network gets ever driven down. Probably you can download most of the games available DRM free/standalone versions if publisher/right owner allows it.
This on the other hand wont ever happen with other platforms with DRM for sure.
